Caterpillars can only be shipped within the continental U.S. Review: Always fun for the kids (and adults) - These are a great activity for children to learn about the life cycle of butterflies. We have raised these for 20 years each summer in my home daycare. The kids love watching each stage, today they are hatching, which is very exciting. Arrive quickly and in perfect condition. Typically 4 of the 5 caterpillars make it all the way to butterflies. Sometimes they all do, but on average over the years it has been 4. Be careful when releasing them as birds really like them and having kids see a bird snap one up right in front of them was a little traumatic that year. We always release near flowers so they have a food source right away. Review: Fun for kids - These caterpillars turned into butterflies just as expected. One of them didn’t come out of the chysalis and another was deformed. My kids aren’t too little so it wasn’t awful to explain. I wish they would sell different variety of butterflies, I’d love to have different types emerge ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B09RSH4RFN | | Age Range Description | 4+ | | Best Sellers Rank | #148,331 in Toys & Games ( See Top 100 in Toys & Games ) #1,360 in Educational Science Kits | | Brand Name | Insect Lore | | Customer Reviews | 4.1 out of 5 stars 579 Reviews | | Educational Objective | STEM | | Included Components | Two Cups of Caterpillars & Butterfly Life Cycle Stages | | Item Dimensions | 6.25 x 3.1 x 3 inches | | Item Type Name | Butterfly Habitat Refill | | Item Weight | 10.24 ounces | | Manufacturer | Insect Lore | | Manufacturer Part Number | L200-LCS-AMZ | | Manufacturer recommended age | 4 years and up | | Material Type | Plastic | | Model Number | L200-LCS-AMZ | | Number of Items | 1 | | Set Name | Painted Lady Caterpillar Refill Set | | Size | 3.1 x 6.25 x 3 inches | | Theme | Insects | | UPC | 735569010053 | | Unit Count | 10 Count | ## Images ![Two Cups of Live Caterpillars - 10 Live Painted Lady Caterpillars with Food - Includes Bonus Butterfly Life Cycle Figurines - Refill for Butterfly Garden Habitat - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71WdmjFC-nL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Style** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: How do they breathe in the cups?** A: The cups have a filter under the lid Thoth hole in the top that allows for them to receive air. **Q: are these monarch caterpillars?** A: They are not… these are painted lady butterflies. A bit smaller than monarch, but very beautiful **Q: Two caterpillars are curled up on the bottom during the stage of cocooning. Are they dead?** A: Yes dead **Q: How would I postpone the butterflies from hatching? Shipping was faster than expected and I want to give them as a present in 10 days.** A: I don’t think you can slow down nature. However, the caterpillars will continue to grow for 7-10 days before they each turn into a chrysalis. Then another 7-10 days before they emerge as butterflies. You have some time still. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Always fun for the kids (and adults) *by H***J on July 28, 2025* These are a great activity for children to learn about the life cycle of butterflies. I've been doing these butterfly gardens for 7 years ans never had an issue. These ones arrived like this and I have several dead at the bottom now and only a few chrysalis hanging out of two cups. I also ordered an entire garden for a friend's kid's birthday and theirs arrived similar with two dead caterpillars. Yes they waited a couple days to see if they'd move. They did not. In addition, at the same time I recommended the butterfly garden to another friend and now all of their caterpillars have died. In seven years I've never had any die until now, but with 3 of us having g dead caterpillars in multiple cups, it seems like something is going on... ## Frequently Bought Together - Insect Lore Two Cups of Live Caterpillars with Butterfly Life Cycle Figurines | Butterfly Habitat or Kit Refill | Painted Lady Butterflies - Insect Lore Butterfly Garden Kit, Painted Lady Butterfly Kit with Voucher for Live Caterpillars, Butterfly Habitat, STEM Journal & More - NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Butterfly Growing Kit - Butterfly Habitat Kit with Voucher to Redeem 5 Caterpillars (S&H Not Included), Butterfly Cage, Feeder (Amazon Exclusive) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/411652829-two-cups-of-live-caterpillars-10-live-painted-lady-caterpillars](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/411652829-two-cups-of-live-caterpillars-10-live-painted-lady-caterpillars) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-13*
