Amazing learning device for kids!!
This is the perfect device for your kids (or you) to learn programming. Things in today's PCs are so complicated that the learning curve is impossible for beginners. With this little thing you can do quality games and learn coding in a few days, with out the complexities of Windows, Compilers, Frameworks.... As a professional programmer I was able to learn the basics and make a game in a few hours. The device is just a normal Arduino board with a screen and buttons, but then, Arduboy provides a library to draw, print letters, do sprites (animations), beeps and reading buttons. That is all you need !!, and since we are in 2020, the device is so fast that your game will run smoothly, even with crappy coding.Once you get started you will realize that it is a computer first, it is not only for games, you can do anything you want. You can get started by drawing lines, images, and then move to sprites for animation. From there, your imagination is the limit. To get started, at the minimum, you need any computer with USB port. The Arduboy uses the Arduino dev tool, which is a simple notepad with compile and upload buttons. Almost zero time to learn, though, for me, I used Netbeans and the Arduboy CLI. For beginners the Arduino tool is more than enough. The language is C++, which might sounds scary. But Arduino did a clever thing where you only do static functions and a simple String class that hides the C++ complexities. So, a basic Ardboy program is two functions: setup() and loop(). And, if you want, that's it. Id you declare every variable in the stack, the program will look like Visual BASIC, and you don't have to worry about anything, very clever and simple, but immediately applicable if you want to learn real C++ from it, and move to more complex Arduino devices. Again, you imagination is the limit.

Great for hobbyists
Great little hobbyist system! It would be nice if it came with any sort of software to more easily transfer games in and out of the system... also bummer it has only capacity for one game at a time.

Gaming in the palm of your hand.. Arduboy
Arduboy is a small handheld gaming device where all the games available are free and easy to install.. though to be honest the Arduboy only can have one game installed at a time! Changing games is as simple as plugging the Arduboy into your computer with a Micro USB cable and clicking on the game you wish installed.. there are a bunch of good games sometimes named differently than an original game I'm supposing to avoid legal action. The Arduboy is about the same size as a credit card but built very well. I thought I'd break it but boy was I wrong! The screen is small and black and white but doesn't take away from the fun. I have a much nicer system than Arduboy but find at night it's easier to play it and not disturb my wife.. happy wife.. happy life! Pictured here is my Arduboy with probably my favorite Game Hollow Seeker.. a great game that saves your score even if you change games so when you come back to it your high scores are not erased and I find challenging enough to always try to beat whoever may have beaten my score! Do I recommend the Arduboy? Yes but not everyone will be a fan but those who can appreciate a system for what it is.. I believe they'll enjoy the system just as much as I..

Fun tiny device to play games and learn
A Very cool tiny device that can do so much with so little. The build quality is excellent; the screen looks amazing and way better than I could ever imagine a 1-bit screen being. Was very easy to get set up and start playing games on it as soon as I got it. I think this is a great device for anyone who likes retro games or is into programming/electronics. I think it would also be a great gift for any kid that is interested in video game development.I like this so much that I would recommend anyone who has any interest in this device or thinks they have a friend or family member that would pick it up. It is very inexpensive and just such a neat little device that I think a lot of people would love to have it in their lives.

Needs MAJOR improvements...
The Arduboy sounded like a pretty cool toy. I didn't plan to get into programming, but I was looking forward to enjoying some old-school games. Unfortunately, I was not too impressed... especially in terms of build quality.Mine came out of the box with scratches on the screen, despite being new. It became even more scratched up when I tried to wipe it clean... I used the same microfiber cloth I use on my glasses! The OLED screen has a bad case of scenery "bleeding" across the display. The buttons feel wiggly and worn out, and the "polycarbonate" face, really just feels like cheap plastic. It's also worth mentioning that you can only store one game at a time, and that none of the games I tried could save your progress in any way. The Arduboy is WAY too expensive for what you get.

Nice Arduino based game console.
This is a nice little gadget. I'm still a noob to this kind of stuff but been interested in these kinds of thing since I go my raspberry pi. This arduboy is not easy to set up but not super hard to figure out just don't expect a plug and play situation. It comes with one game pre installed and you can only have one game installed on it at a time that limitation sucks but I guess that's ok. To get more games you have to download the Arduino software on your computer and find the games on the Arduboy community site that people create. You can also create your own games by writing some code, great way to start learning how to make simple games. Also this thing is so small I can put it in my wallet as if it where a credit card lol overall I love this little gadget.

Neat, but really doesn't do much.
It's neat, but it really doesn't do much. I feel like I paid too much for what it does.

bad opinion zone
This thing really needs an SD card so you can load more than one game

Lots of Fun
Just incredibly cool! Install Arduboy Uploader on your PC and choose from over 200 games. The machine holds one game at a time. It is really, really small and the games are simple but fun. (The asteroids clone is my favourite so far.) Find a protective cover so the surface doesn't get scratched up.
