Root Naturally Jiffy peat pellets are Ideal for starting your seeds without any mess. All you have to do is just add water and the pellet will expand once the pellet has expanded you can plant your seed. The pellet has a thin net holding it together. Once your plants are ready to be transplanted all you have to do is transplant directly into the ground or container and you will minimize transplant shock and root damage. This pellet is a 36mm and will expand (1.50in x 1.50in.)

Take the mesh off before planting!
These work great, but I highly recommend removing the mesh from the outside of the pellet before planting. Jiffy's website says the mesh is biodegradable and to leave it on, but I have experienced several plants not growing because of the mesh barrier. It really depends on the root structure of the seedlings, as to whether the roots are strong enough to break through. Realistically the mesh won't biodegrade before the plants are large enough to need space for their roots, so I am now removing it from all of my seedlings as a precaution.

Counting machine needs calibration.
Ordered 2 bags 100count each. Surprise, surprise. When i was loading the trays i noticed that i was short 4 peat pellets from 1st bag. Recounted the next bag and came up 5 short. Their loading machine must be uncalibrated or someone is shorting the bags. Pellets did expand like it was suppose to. But it would be nice to receive quantity ordered. It's like buying a car and hopefully you get four tires not three.

Like crunchy chips that taste like dirt...
You're thinking to yourself... Peat Pellets in a packet of 100. Do I need 100 of these things? How many seeds am I really going to plant? Can I just put the seeds in some dirt and not use Peat Pellets? I can't answer that for you. What I can tell you is that these work just great. First, you put the disc shaped pellet on the bottom of the tray. Then you pour some water in the tray. Don't pour too much, or the Peat Pellets will become boats that float around the tray. Wait about an hour and they'll be expanded and ready to take more water and some seeds. There is a hole at the top, so you can drop your seed in there, and after a few days (Depending on the seed, how much light, and if you live on planet Earth or not) the seed will turn into a plant that you can then take, entire Peat Pellet and all, to your garden or planter and set in the soil. That's about it. No real magic here, but they do work great to get the seeds started. I use them all the time, great deal and good quality.

Nearly 100% germination rate.
These do the job they're intended for. Nearly every seed took, and started grown. Very easy! The only down side is dependent on how use them. i.e. if they're touching, or in individual pots. If they're touching then roots will migrate into their neighbors pod, and you'll need to break them to separate the pods. They're perfect for starting, but you'll need to transplant them to individual pots quickly. So it begs the question... why not just start in the pots to begin with?

Works
When I compared this product with the rockwool cubes that I had been using in my gardening. To my surprise, I found these to work better to root my cuttings. Initially, I used them in a DWC hydroponic setup inside net pots. My cuttings seemed happier and healthier and root faster than when growing in rockwool, so I'm happy. None suffered, even temporarily from shock, after transplanting to larger containers and a different hydroponic setup.

ok but I prefer the 40mm or 50 mm ones
these worked as they were supposed too, but after using them I realized I much prefer the ones that are a bit deeper. The 36mm just seem a bit shallow. The roots from my peas pushed out the bottom within just a day or 2. They seemed to dry out really quickly, which is another reason I prefer the ones that are a bit deeper. The other types of seeds did better than the peas, but when I ordered more pellets I ordered the ones that were 40 mm for the same price. Other than the depth, these expanded properly and the seeds germinated well.

They short you!!!
The pellets seem ok they are for small seeds I use this size for herbal garden. I gave it 2 stars because I was shorted 4 pellets! I figured ok no big deal I was planning on ordering another 200 pellets anyway I just needed to see how they would fit in my growing area, but the company who it seems shorted a few other customers then raise their prices! That’s bad Business to me! If you don’t care about the consumer there are other companies! I don’t like to leave bad reviews but that seems Intentional, and I’m tiered of it!!!

Great plant starter!
I use these pellets to start my vegetable plants (fall/winter veggies such as kale, beet, lettuce) after I sprouted them in a cup soaked in water. These pellets could hold several seeds, I poke about 4 holes on the edges so that each pellet holds about 4 seedlings. At transplanting, just tear off the cloth wrap and separate the seedlings. It's very convenient with minimal mess! 100 pellets will be used up sooner than I expected.
