Does this product require a subscription?

To use the OptiSigns Digital signage feature, yes. A subscription would be required. As far as I could tell while we tested this unit, It's essentially an Android Stick (Chromecast-like device) that you can load other apps to. This one just comes with pre-loaded OptiSigns player and can be configured to use OptiSigns at startup.

What can be done with this device without a subscription?

Nothing after the first month which is why I sent mine back

how much is the subscription?

I paid for a year, it was 108 dollars per screen. I use 2 screens so it was 216 dollars. I use the Optisigns Android stick on 1 screen and the Amazon Firestick lite ($24) both sticks work great.

Im looking for a video player that automatically plays the video similar to BS signage players, does this player offer automatic video playback?

The OptisSigns app can be set up to do that. It's very versatile.
