Durable and Efficient Seed Starter for Gardening Enthusiasts
The Burpee SuperSeed Seed Starting Tray is a 36-cell reusable tray designed to simplify the seed germination process for vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Ideal for indoor gardening, this tray aims to provide an organized and efficient way to start seedlings. I used it to germinate a variety of seeds, including tomatoes, herbs, and marigolds, to assess its usability, durability, and performance. Pros: ✅ Reusable Design: The sturdy construction ensures the tray can be reused for multiple planting seasons. ✅ Optimized Cell Size: Each cell is spacious enough to support healthy root development for seedlings. ✅ Efficient Watering System: The tray design allows for easy drainage and helps prevent overwatering, promoting successful germination. ✅ Compact and Organized: Perfect for indoor setups, fitting conveniently on windowsills or small gardening shelves. ✅ Clear Lid Included: The included dome lid helps retain moisture and warmth, creating an ideal environment for germination. Cons: ❌ Lid Durability: The plastic lid feels thinner and less sturdy compared to the tray, requiring careful handling. ❌ No Labels Included: A lack of labels or markers for cell identification means you’ll need to organize seedlings manually. Performance and Usability: The Burpee SuperSeed tray performed excellently during testing, providing consistent germination rates across different types of seeds. The drainage holes in each cell were particularly effective in preventing waterlogging, while the clear dome lid helped maintain humidity levels. Cleaning the tray was straightforward, making it a practical reusable solution for gardeners. However, the thin lid requires extra care to avoid cracking. Comparison: Compared to single-use seed trays, the Burpee SuperSeed tray stands out for its durability and eco-friendly design. While some reusable trays in this price range lack clear lids or have smaller cells, this model strikes a good balance between functionality and size. Competitors offering similar features may charge more, making this tray a cost-effective option for home gardeners. Who Is This For?: This seed starter tray is ideal for beginner and experienced gardeners who want a reliable and reusable solution for starting seeds indoors. It’s perfect for those growing vegetables, flowers, or herbs in limited space or preparing seedlings for transplanting into a larger garden. Conclusion: The Burpee SuperSeed Seed Starting Tray is a high-quality, reusable tool that simplifies the germination process and supports healthy seedling growth. While the lid could be sturdier and labels would add convenience, the tray’s overall performance and ease of use make it a valuable addition to any gardener’s toolkit.

Nice product.
Used them last spring for starting a lot of seeds and it worked great. I’m interested in getting some of the larger ones now. They are good quality trays and seem fairly durable. I like the silicone bottoms, they make it so much easier to pop the plants out.

Easy!
I like these seed-starting trays very much. So far I have had beautiful seedlings with great root systems for my kitchen garden. My one disappointment is that I received a tray with a cracked bottom tray, which I returned and got a replacement for without a hassle. I guess I am simply curious to see how long the bottom water reservoir trays hold up! If Burpee pays any attention to these reviews, I hope they take note and make a sturdier bottom tray for an ultimate product. That being said, I think the price point for these trays is fair and reasonable, and maybe a sturdier plastic would increase the price too much. I normally use a soil blocker to make 100s of tiny soil blocks in the spring. Those are really great, but the soil blocking process is strenuous, and these trays feel so easy compared to that. I think I will still use the soil blocker when I make my initial sowings of lots of garden plants in the spring, and these trays will be perfect during the summer for succession sowings.

No more stuck starter plants
I got several of this seed starter kit recently that holds 8 seedlings, and it's pretty neat for the most part. It has a silicone bottom which makes it super easy to pop the plants out without damaging them when it's time to transplant, which is a huge plus. There's also a watering tray at the bottom, so the soil stays moist but not too wet. It's made of this thick plastic that feels pretty sturdy, so I think it's going to last a while. But, it's not perfect. I've noticed that the roots can grow into the watering area and get all tangled up, which is a bit of a hassle. And it doesn't come with a plastic cover, which I didn't think would be a big deal, but it actually makes it harder to keep the humidity in. Plus, the plastic near the handles is a bit thinner than the rest, so I'm being extra careful not to crack it. It's a decent starter kit overall, just has a few quirks to work around. I really like the smaller ones because they fit on window sills and more importantly they stack up! The big 72 cell ones are really annoying because they take up so much space year around. This is a winner so far. I ordered 10 and of those 1 had cracked plastic around the handles.

Nice but not durable
Enjoyed these for a few seasons but the plastic cups started to crack and fall out. Wish they lasted longer cause they were really nice. Would not buy again though.

Solid, durable, reusuable seed tray
Great seed starting tray, I always struggled to get starts out of those thin plastic disposable trays you can pick up at a big box store, the flexible material at the bottom of the cells and the general shape of the cells make extraction really easy. They've held up through two rounds of starts now and seem like they'll be good for many more. Cleaning them after use probably took 10 minutes, it's not as simple as rinsing and calling it a day unfortunately but hey, less time than it takes to run down to the store and buy another disposable tray so I'm happy with it. In terms of how well starts actually do, I can't say there was a noticeable difference from disposable trays. Getting them out without damaging roots was a help, but for actually germinating seeds ehh, it's not really about the tray. Note that there is no included humidity dome, but you could probably drop any kind of plastic cover on there easy enough or just stay consistent with watering.
