Causes microwave error
Updated again: I have the red one at home, and brought the dark grey container to work, but am not able to use it in the microwave at work because for some reason it sets off an electrical storm in the microwave - as if I put metal in the microwave, but I didn't. At first I blamed it on the Popcorn setting and thought the microwave had an error, but now I can't use it on any setting without this happening. I have never had the problem with the red one when used at home - only with the dark grey one.Previously Updated Review: This product is a little stiff when it first arrives, which causes the lid flaps to flip open while popping and popcorn ends up all over the microwave. However, after the first time it happened, I worked the lid flaps at the crease several times, and really folded them down towards the center of the container, so that they would stay closed better. This is something that could have been done prior to first use, had I known what the issue was. I am so glad I fixed the issue, because there is no other "single serve" popping container on Amazon, that I could find. The popcorn comes out really nice and crispy/crunchy/light. Since I'm using it at work, and trying to be healthy, I use a spray dispenser to spray the popcorn with olive oil, then salt it directly in the container. Very tasty! (p.s. at home I use a spray dispenser with butter when indulging). So the container is the perfect size for me to enjoy popcorn directly from the popper. Yes, there are quite a few kernals leftover, but for me that is fine because if all of those popped, this would be a little more than my idea of a single serve. And they warn you not to use less popcorn than the fill line or it will burn - so those kernals are helping to fill what I would have as a void if I was popping fewer, if that makes any sense. I love this little thing.Old Review:The lid flaps won't stay down while popping, and popcorn was flying all over the microwave. I had to stop the microwave a few times, and the stopping and starting the microwave to try to put the lid back down or find some way to cover it with a paper towel didn't help the popping process. Ultimately the popcorn burned, which has only happened to me when I stop and start it in the middle of popping. So, I won't be using this at work again.

Doesn't work
I'm a committed JosephJoseph brand groupie, and have many of it's products that I 100% love. This one is, sadly, a fail—not sure if the one I received is defective or if it's just the product design itself. The flaps just do not stay closed, defeating the entire purpose of this product. They immediately open as soon as the popcorn starts popping, spewing kernels and popped popcorn all of the microwave. If the flaps stayed close, this would be 4 stars—perfect size for individual snacking, dishwasher safe, aesthetically pleasing, and a small footprint. I've resorted to not closing the flaps and just putting the black popper upside down on top of the orange popper to create a very tall lid to contain the popcorn and prevent them from erratically escaping all over the microwave. Yes, that fixes the problem...but defeats the purpose. I do not recommend spending your money on this.

Not bad
In my first review of the product I gave it a really poor scoring as the flaps would not stay closed and the microwave was a mess and barely anything was left in the cup. However, I searched and found a video of a trick to keep the flaps closed and that changed everything. After putting the flaps down just ease one corner out and the cup will stay closed the whole time. It is still a little on the small side for me but at least it is all staying in the cup and that makes a big difference.

Works, but...
I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't buy these again. We've used them half a dozen times since they arrived, and they Do work, but with a few key drawbacks. The first is their size. Despite the hand model in the product photo, I still took them out of the box and thought "wow, those are tiny!" And they are. When I want popcorn, I want popcorn. The amount I can make here may be a "reasonable" serving, but I'd really like more.Second, you have to close then Just Right. The first couple of times I just folded the lids over any old way. The moment the first kernels popped, the lid flew open and there were both popped and unpopped kernels all over the microwave - which had to be dealt with immediately lest they burn. It took a few tries to figure out how to cross the lids in the center to prevent that.Third, there's a pretty high percentage of unpopped kernels after 2:30 - 2:45 in my microwave - maybe 40% or more. I have not yet taken it to the point of burning, and I may be able to add a few more seconds, but I think there will always be a lot of wastage.Last but not least is clean up. I know we all like to think we're going to eat oil free popcorn, but if we're honest we know that will be too boring, and besides even salt won't stick without a little something. Here's where the size becomes a factor again: it's just to little (and perhaps just as importantly, too tall and narrow - and Hot!) to successfully oil and season inside. So I end up dumping everything into a wide, shallow bowl, spraying with cooking oil, adding salt, and shaking. This gives me a nice, edible result, but at the cost of another dirty dish. Part of the reason I don't use my whirley-pop stove top popper often is the amount of cleaning it takes. But at least I can season and oil in the same pot! Yes, these guys produce a little less mess, but not as much less as I was hoping.
