The Wim Hof Method: Activate Your Full Human Potential

Powerful Book on Breathing and Cold Therapy
I’ve wanted to read this book ever since I heard an interview with Wim on a podcast. Wim has broken ground on the understanding of breath and life as well as cold and life. We have become so soft in our modern age with all the comforts and conveniences that we miss the value of slowing down and taking the time to breathe and learn the value of cold. When we expose our bodies to cold for brief periods it opens up the primal modes of survival. And, it opens up our minds. It increases our immune system and stress disintegrates. It’s the same with breathing and getting the oxygen to our brains. With the oxygen comes the healing. But this only scratches the surface. Wim goes into the scientific verification of his methods. There is something for all of us in this book. Read the book to learn more.I am a Christian and follower of Jesus Christ and I find the breathing and cold therapy to be valuable for my wellbeing. I do not agree with Wim on all the Eastern conclusions but I do find it extremely important to walk in love as he points out. There is much for us human beings to learn.

Wisdom from Wim
If you already know who Wim Hof is, you may know much of his story already too. If you don't, and are curious about this remarkable man, this is as good an introduction as you're likely to find.Although I am a practitioner of his method, this review isn't a critique of whether it works or doesn't. This is a review of the book. And the book is good. An easy read, but full of so much wisdom born of experience, both positive and negative. It's hard not to feel Wim's infectious enthusiasm coming right off the page. In addition to full explanations of the three components of his method, there's also quite a bit about his life. What formed his approach, his motivation for wanting to peer into places most people tend to avoid. You'll come away knowing more about the man himself, and it may indeed motivate you to begin your own practice. This is a really enjoyable work by a genuinely unique human being. You will learn much about him, and it's entirely possible, about yourself as well. Recommended.

Interesting & Applicable / Not Sure About The Personal Stories
The approach of cold exposure (cold showers, ice baths, etc.) and breathing techniques are fascinating, accessible and seem to be backed by research. And I can see measurable results when using these techniques. This includes better stamina during exercise and deeper/better sleep (measured by an iWatch sleep app). The most obvious, immediate change, is my ability to hold my breath. I did the Wim Hof breathing techinque (40 breaths, exhale hold, inhale hold). And then just hold my breath. I went a minute in a half. When normally thirty seconds is hard.I believe that these approaches combat inflammation which is the root of disease. So this stuff is important and impactful.I didn't really understand the applicableness of his personal stories. How a woman used her feet to touch his genitals and he didn't get aroused. How his son doesn't talk to him after his divorce. How he makes loves. I just didn't see how this was applicable, and it just (for me) was almost a discord for the techniques. Maybe I am being too critical.Nonetheless the book's concepts seem to be excellent. I definitely recommend.

Inspiring and fascinating
Amazing story and fantastic method. If you just want to try out the Wim Hof method, download the free app and follow the instructions there, you don't need to pay for this book or do any paid courses. You can get a little taste by doing the basic breathing exercise once, it only takes 4-20 minutes, depending on how many rounds you do. After that you can decide if you want to go for more. Although there isn't much more, except a bit more breathing and cold water showers. The key, and the real hard part, is the commitment to make a habit out of it and do it regularly, that's also when you get the most benefits.Anyway, if you've already tried the method, or you just don't care about it but want to learn more about the backstory and the guy who came up with it, I highly recommend this book. It's a fascinating read. It feels almost like listening to Wim Hof telling his story in his own words. Super inspiring and lots of cool things to try out and practice. He does become a bit repetitive towards the end, and he does talk a lot about the soul, what he believes society should move towards and other stuff that are his personal points of view and which you might not necessarily agree with. It's fine with me, but it could be offputting to some people if all they care about is the method (WHM) or his back story.

Very inspiring
Im working through long covid for 2 years now and my sister made me promise to read this as it really helped her husband with his health, depression and anxiety. So I got this book and dove in... after the 1st breathing session I felt noticably better as did the asthma and cranky lungs. I then got going on the cold showers and very soon cold plunges. It's all made a big difference and I'm healing faster. I was riveted reading this and his life story... so encouraging. The premise he discusses that you can use breathwork, power of the mind and cold to heal the body from sickness blew mind. It's a paradigm shift and if your searching for help this will make you stronger. Plenty of science in here, just the right mix of stories and science. One of my all time favs, I'm fixing to read again soon. Get this!

Wow!
I started reading this book as a skeptic. Now after a full month of using his methods I'm a believer. what he teaches is real and tangible. The cold water is unbelievably easy and opens my body to be free from pain. The breathing he teaches is healing my body with every breath I take. Try this book for yourself and follow his methods and it will change your life.

Life changing book
Wim's story is amazing, but more so is his journey to understand the elements that comprise a happy, strong and healthy life through the ice and breathing. It is a journey worthwhile taking.

Life-Changing!
Well-written book detailing the origins and methodology of the Wim Hof method. I started implementing the cold therapy and breathing technique about 3 weeks ago. From day one I can actually say my life has changed: my energy is through the roof from morning til night. I feel alive and amazingly GOOD! My aches and pains have completely disappeared. My arthritic knee has cleared up which is a godsend - physio and a $600 injection I had in Spring did nothing. I've gone from feeling and moving like an old lady to a state of invigorated well-being. This method is not a mere fad or some far-fetched goofy idea - it is scientifically proven and its incredibly easy and uncomplicated to do. I've just started using the method to lose weight and Im very hopeful it will be successful. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Breath, and cold a tool manage body, and mind
Fact based, and practical book. It answers 3 questions:1) What has been the personal journey of Wim Hoff with breath, and cold?2) Why breath, and cold has a positive effect in body, and mind?3) What are the exercises to get into it?After 1 month of cold showers, my personal experience is that I feel better (ie energy, focus, reinforce positive mindset, …) and curious about where it can lead.
