You can use a heavy-duty tongs or the "Ov glove." I didn't care too much for this iron - it's made in China and even after I followed all the pre-cooking instructions, it still has a bad metallic smell, and I don't really trust whatever metals this was made from in China..... **Q: Where is it made?** A: I believe it's made in China, but I would have to check... We have been quite pleased with it's function. We did season and condition it thoroughly before use.
