Perfect for a College Student
I love this backpack! Amazon gives you such a great deal compared to buying directly from North Face. The backpack was inside a plastic bag, which was slightly torn up. Even though it wasn’t sealed, the backpack was protected from dust and water during shipping. The straps, including the handle at the top, are cushioned and very durable. Having a lot of weight in it still feels like a light load, and it far exceeds any other backpack I have owned previously. Carrying a laptop and books across campus is much easier now than it was before. So far, it has been pretty water resistant as well. The double water bottle pockets with clips are great to prevent your bottle from falling out.The interior is soft and the pockets are well made. There are not too many pockets either, just enough to comfortably sort your items out without losing track of which pocket they are in.I wasn’t sure about spending this much on a backpack, but I’m so glad I did, and that I purchased it from Amazon instead of directly from North Face. I would buy it again in the future if I needed to, though I predict this backpack will last me a very, very long time.

LOVE THIS BACKPACK
LOVE THIS BACKPACK!! I ordered this because I’m a student and also go on a lot of trips where i like to have a backpack. I had another north face but it was waaaay too much for me. I decided trying the Borealis bc it seemed a better size and shape for me and i love it so much. It fits everything i need has lots of useful pockets and a place for my laptop. It’s extremely adjustable and very great quality. I can’t wait to take it on adventures with me!

Great For Travel. Design is not only appealing, but very functional!
I bought this for our Euro trip because it was reviewed as one of the best backpacks for traveling purposes. I'm VERY satisfied with the functionality of it. The easy and accessible side pockets worked great for our water bottles of various sizes and all the buckles really kept everything secured and safe. The bungee in the front allowed us to attach the backpack to our rolling carry on when we didn't want to wear it and would expand enough to hold our travel pillows. The inside pockets were plentiful and kept our laptop perfect. Even though it's listed as a women's backpack, my fiancé felt perfectly comfortable wearing it as well. He actually said the shape of the handles felt nicer than his backpacks. He actually still uses it to carry his iPad and work things around now. Great design, durability, and overall value.

Quality of this backpack is great, don't get me wrong
Quality of this backpack is great, don't get me wrong. Let me state the pros first, and explain why the cons of this backpack outweighs all of it for me.Pros:I love all of the pockets and the compartments. I especially love how the outside pocket is fleece-lined for your sunglasses or something, and the insides have some fleece-lined pockets as well for electronics! There are two really big and stretch water bottle pockets that fit my 1L camelbak, which is super nice. It's also supposed to be this "concealing mesh" that can hide whatever you choose to put inside. The laptop sleeve holds my 13inch macbook pro retina really nicely, although it's kinda hard sliding my laptop in and out because of the rubber feet rubbing against the fleece-lining. I'm actually kind of afraid of scared of tearing off the rubber feet, because of the rubbing. Also, the size of the backpack allows me to fit quite a lot in it! Which is pretty nice.Quality of the backpack itself is of course nice (thank you North Face!). It's this nylon, waterproof material that really feels good. Also, the straps have little loops for you to add little miscellaneous items to hang (i.e. hand sanitizer, pepper spray, etc.)Now, for the Cons:It's insanely uncomfortable. At first, when I got it, I was surprised at how hard/heavy the backpack was with nothing in it! It was also bigger than I thought it would be, but more on that later. I thought maybe it was just my inexperience with North Face borealis backpacks that had me feeling this way, so I stuck it out for a good 3-4 months, but today I decided to resell it because it just wasn't doing it for me.The straps are super hard. I know the "flex vent" makes them that way on purpose, and for the most part it's fine, but it actually really hurts my shoulders. And also, the back is really hard. My backpack came "curved" so the hard back went inwards a little and always made my backpack fall forwards when I set it down. I googled this a while ago to see if I was the only one having this problem, and apparently there are multiple other people who disliked these new "upgrades" that North Face made to the borealis too.The backpack was also bigger than I expected, as I have friends with older model of the Borealis (and other types of TNF bags) that are smaller. As a petite person with a slightly smaller frame, this one size was too big to fit me properly.Overall, I would recommend this backpack ***if you enjoy how it feels/like the fit of it***. Like I said, the quality is great, as expected! And I've read lots and lots of reviews of people saying they enjoy how it feels, but I've also seen quite a few that say they don't. I'd say check it out in a nearby store in person, and maybe purchase through Amazon if they're having a deal or something. Definitely don't buy it blind like I did online and be shocked at how heavy it was just by picking up the empty shell (It's already ~2lbs. without anything in it).

It's alright... North Face backpacks are not what they used to be.
I used my old North Face (recon) backpack for several years, with no issues or problems. The reason I had to switch was because it became SO worn out (just dirty and "worn" in general) that I needed a new one. I purchased this one for its simplistic design, and because I really wanted a bag that I could rely on. Within 2 days of my purchase, the mesh lining on one of the straps ripped. I was so disappointed. I didn't want to go through the trouble of returning the bag, so I just used some gorilla glue to put it back together... Long story short, the quality of North Face bags is definitely not what it used to be.

Perfect for students and travelers
Great backpack for students. As a college student that hauls around textbooks, laptop, and papers an average of 6 miles a day, I highly recommend this backpack. It took me about a month to totally break into it, but it still gets five stars because it perfectly suits the needs of students. I also travelled quite a bit with this product and it was great for that too. The laptop space is a great size, and this backpack can be stuffed in so many different ways. Lots of pockets. Wish there was another small pocket like the one on the front. LOVE that it has two large water bottle pockets since I usually have a coffee thermos and a water bottle. Not many backpacks have this feature.
