Review: Great Value. - Compared various products and prices for the oil catch cans and chose the Ruien 0046. Read the reviews and was a little skeptical of this product as reviews were mixed, but liked the price. No disappointments. Really a quality item. Well made and a heavy piece. Comes with 6 line fittings (3 for inlet & 3 for the outlet) that can be matched to whatever hose size you might use. Also is included is some teflon tape to wrap on the threads of the fittings to create a tight seal. The supplied hose is a thin wall flexible plastic. I can see how in some applications it might collapse. So consider this a "generic" hose, but you may find yourself going to the parts store to get a hose that fits your application, not only with a matching ID, but also in length depending on where you locate the can - so I don't see this as a "negative" point to be considered. A stainless steel scouring pad is included that goes inside the canister. The lower section that will capture the oil screws on and off and is sealed with a large rubber o-ring at the base of the threads. The Inlet and Outlet ports are well marked. Has a dipstick that screws into the top and can be easily unscrewed to check the oil fill level of the can. No o-ring is used to seal it as it has a machined taper at the base which tightens securely into the top plate to create a good seal. Nice shiny black exterior finish. A basic side mount bracket is screwed to the top section. It might work as is, or you may have to fabricate up another bracket to mount on your car and then mount the can to it. If you are adding something like this, then you know how to fabricate if needed. No odd smells or oily parts. Did not see any machined chips, but I will flush and blow it out which I would do anyway prior to installation. So I think this is a great value for the size and price, very complete in application & installation, and am very please with what I received. I would buy again if needed for another vehicle.
Review: Great Catch Can for the Price- but beware- some custom parts needed - Installed this on a 2011 Buick Enclave with the 3.6 L V6 with direct injection, which are known to have intake carboning up issues due to direct injection. A catch can may eliminate these issues. This catch can is built really good for being less than $30. It does a great job of catching all of the moisture, and crap that would otherwise be inside the engine. It's kind of unsettling seeing all the crap that it catches, knowing that was all in the engine! I'd recommend this product to anyone. BUT, there are a few "gotchas" that I have learned" Don't over tighten it, or it will be extremely hard to get off. In order to prevent issues getting it off, I spin it on fully, and as soon as it "bottoms out", (stops turning), I back it off about 1/2 or 1/4 turn. Otherwise, it will get on there extremely tight, and we have had to put it in a vise to get it off once when I tightened it all the way. I also put some grease on the threads to help it spin easily. Doing that, it comes off easily, and it doesn't leak. This kit did not come with any instructions, or any substantial mounting hardware. We had to use a scrap piece of aluminum to mount it, some custom fabrication was needed (nothing major though, just bent and drilled some aluminum.) And secured the catch can to it using some fasteners we had around. The hose that comes with the kit, I would not recommend using. It is just too thin, and I wouldn't expect it to last a long time. I used some 3/8" heater hose from a local auto parts store, and that works great. (May have to use different depending on your engine). The thread sealing tape that comes with the kit isn't that great either, so I used some better teflon tape. Otherwise, this is a great product.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How long of a piece of hose is included?**
A: Don’t bother using the hose included. It’s cheaper than a garden hose. Go to Napa or Pepboys and get around 3-4 feet fuel line (bring the hose that attaches to the PCV). For my Gen Coupe I needed a 3/8 and 1/2 hose.

**Q: I have a 2006 5.7 charger. How can i mount this?**
A: I have a 2006 Chrysler 300 SRT8. There is a small metal tab attached to the engine bay on the passenger side which I used to bolt in the catch can using a piece of 90 degree garage door hanger bar I picked up from Home Depot which I cut to size. I then used a 3/8 inch bolt with a locking nut and washers just to make sure it does not vibrate off. For the mounting bracket which came with the catch can itself, I attached the two longer Hex bolts through the frame I fabricated, and bolted them on with some washers. I also had to drill a 3/4 inch hole very carefully, so as not to go through the top of the hood itself, on the inside where the top of the dipstick hit since there was not a lot of clearance once the hood was fully closed. It takes a little bit of effort, but for me it works great

**Q: What does this thing do?**
A: Its good for an older motor that has a lot of piston blow-by. Most PCV systems have a pcv valve that attaches to one valve cover and connects it to the vacuum of the intake manifold. And the other side just has a straight hose that connects the other valve cover to the intake tube before the throttle body.
The side with the PCV valve is more to suck out blow-by gases while the engine is idling. The straight hose side is only active when the throttle plate is opened to really suck out air under higher load. For my motor with 300k miles that straight hose side is the one that sucks out the most oil and blows it all over my throttle plate and intake tube. Down the intake and into the combustion chambers. Where it fowls up the catalytic converters.
So catch can still allows the gases to be sucked out of the crankcase side of the motor back into the intake. Just w/o the extra oil.
Idk about turbo applications so much. I figure its probably similar to old worn out motors? Where the forced induction either creates harder vacuum suction or more blow-by to the crankcase or maybe both so the results are the same as an engine with worn piston rings.

**Q: does it come with instructions as to how to install?**
A: Been a while since my install, if they came with instructions, out was a small piece of paper. Basically you take the pcv side to the "in" and the "out" goes to your intake. If you're installing on a turbo setup, you want to get a check valve to put in between the intake and canister. I also bought better hoses for mine. The supplied hoses "off gas" / stink. The catch can itself is very nice especially for the price

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid catch can for the price
*by D***5 on February 2, 2022*

First off, the kit did not come with instructions. That being said, the install is fairly straightforward albeit takes some fabricating skills. Plan where you want to install them before hand. More than likely you will have to fashion a bracket to mount them to and every vehicle is different. In my case, I placed them near the firewall and used adjustable shelving rail to make brackets that allowed me to use existing fasteners. The steel wool goes inside the can, just place it in the can and make sure there is a half inch or so of space above the wool to the lip. Removing the dipstick from the can will also make it easier to screw the can on. Another note is that the included teflon tape, hose clamps and hose are junk. For the hose, it is made of soft rubber and is way too short. I bought 10ft of 3/4" vacuum/fuel hose from O'Reilly's and ended up using around 8ft total. You can also get good quality hose clamps there as well. Each kit only gives you two and you need 4 total for each can, additionally they deformed and fell apart when I tried to tighten them. Each kit comes with a variety of nipples that will allow for a variety of hose types which was nice. I was also able to remove the factory connectors from the original hoses and use them with the new hoses which definitely made installation simpler. I would definitely purchase a can for each path that your vehicles PCV system has. In the case of my 2014 F150 Ecoboost it was two, one for each valve cover. There is debate on whether you need two or only one. This is where researching how your vehicle's PCV system operates is important. For the Ecoboost engine, the system vents through the passenger side valve cover when the engine is not under boost (idle, lower RPMs) and vents through the driver side when under boost (accelerating, higher RPMs). The photo of the two bottles shows what my cans captured after about 1000miles of mixed driving (majority of it was highway). The bottle on the left is from the passenger side can (it was mostly oil and combustion vapor condensate) and the one on the right is from the driver side (about 50/50 oil/combustion vapor and water condensation). Now, I am sure that I am not capturing 100% of the vapors but I am satisfied with what I AM capturing I am getting the majority at least. I am giving this kit 4 stars due to cheapness of the clamps, hoses and thread tape (but what do you expect for $26) as well as the lack of instructions, but overall I am happy with the can itself. I will note that I was not able to figure out what the O-rings were for.
