What is the exact depth of the monitor arm when attached to the desk using the C clamp to the back of the monitor?

It is near flush with the back of the desk. The monitor and power cables are thicker.

Can this be used in portrait mode with a 32" monitor?

I have a 32" monitor on mine, works great.

Does it slide up and down to adjust the height or would you have to remove the monitor entirely to adjust the height?

It does not slide up/down. There are four spots on the arm that the monitor notches into, further held by a lock screw.
