Over the years, with kids, jobs, etc - I've purchased several "assembly needed shelving units" - for dorms, bedrooms, makeshift libraries - you name it. I've bought the name brand ones at the Scandinavian store, I've purchased the cheapest ones at the chain Mart stores and several shops in between. I say all of this to explain, I've seen and assembled more than my fair share of shelving units to be able to state that hands down - these are the best. For starters, the packaging alone shows they've applied some thought. There are disposable, plastic bumpers on all of the corners - you know the corners that even when you purchase a unit at a local store and bring it home yourself 9 times out of 10 there's a corner that has exposed pressed board...they've packaged their units in a way that all but prevents any cracked corners, chunks missing, etc. Score a huge win right there alone. The other thoughtful idea that I've only seen one other time (and paid extra for) is the inclusion of wall mounts to prevent the unit from falling forward. Again, huge win! The assembly is just as mind-numbing as any other unit, decent instructions, nothing really to say here. One part that was a drawback, perhaps, is that each shelf is designed to hold at most 20 pounds - they spell this out for you. I say it is perhaps a drawback, because I don't know how that compares. I've never seen another shelving unit indicate the weight per shelf, so perhaps this is the norm. I will say I've more than that weight on a few shelves and there's no apparent sagging or bowing (yet?). I have a slight complaint about the backing boards included, as that they have been over-creased - for lack of another description - in that when I unfolded one to nail it into place, it became two sheets instead of one. Last complaint is the knobs to lay the shelves into place are plastic and either slide in with far too much ease, or don't fit at all and must be tapped in with a hammer - which means hope you like the position of those shelves as they will never be re-arranged again. Overall, my two small complaints aside, these are a great value for the price and the best you'll find in any price range.

You've heard of wanting to give a product zero stars? I want to give this one NEGATIVE stars. I was looking for bookshelves and was reading all of the reviews and I swear when I got to this one, I either must not have read them or there weren't any bad ones because this is GARBAGE. Opened the box to start removing the pieces to get them separated, and IMMEDIATELY the backing for this bookcase ripped. Honestly, I wasn't too made because I didn't plan on using the back anyway. But as I was assembling it and trying to stand it up, one of the screws ripped out of the wood. Again, whatever. Just one screw. I really needed a bookcase. Get it completely stood up, very wobbly. No biggie, still have to out the shelves in. Get the shelved put in, and NO CHANGE TO THR WOBBLING. I'm so scared to put anything on it. I'm going to try and bolt it to the wall to see if that helps but overall, don't waste your time or money on this. Disappointed is the understatement of the century when it comes to this product.

It was easy to put together as expected. The cam locks weren't as bad of quality as some other builds I've done. Mostly it was an extremely cheap solution compared to the others and it does look decent.

product was assembled according to directions . the cams that connect to the longer rounded parts that go into the holes of the boards for putting them together worked Ok, what i would suggest is that two halves of bookshelf when put together and secured by the hardware also have a small like metal braces with small screws to be put inside the boards to give the 2 parts more strengh to better hold the top part of bookcase and the bottom part together ,one screw thru a bracket in the upper part of bookcase and the same for the bottom . so there is a bracket and screws in the middle of unit on both sides of each side. when the unit was all done it had to be moved and when that happened the top part fell back ,unit did and i could not stop it from falling back on me and could not stop it from falling back on me when that happened it completly fell apart no way of putting back together so had to toss it all out in the garbage , notable to use it.$40 dollars out the window.

I have gained some significant experience with building particleboard bookcases after multiple moves over the past decade. Since particleboard furniture doesn't tend to survive a move very well, I have bought and built new bookcases each time I moved for medical school, residency, fellowship, and two jobs. This is by far the worst experience I have had with a set of particleboard bookcases. In the past, I have bought similar particleboard bookcases from Walmart and assembled them in each new apartment I've lived in. Those are fairly cheap like these, and again, suitable for use in one apartment without it being a big deal to chuck them when I move out. Even without the instructions for how to build the bookcases, once you've built a few of them, assembly of subsequent bookcases goes pretty fast. So what went wrong this time? 1) As others have mentioned, the pieces of both bookcases arrived broken, chipped, and in generally poor condition. The boxes themselves were fine, so I do not think the poor condition of the bookcase parts was due to rough handling during shipping. 2) As others have mentioned, there were NO labels on any of the pieces except for one crossbar. This is not an accident in one box; I opened the second box as well, and none of those pieces was labeled either. 3) The workmanship in general was very flimsy and poor quality. I was unable to assemble the bookcase and have it stay together with just the hardware provided. I tried super gluing the pieces together to reinforce the bookshelf, but this still wasn't sufficient to keep the bookcase together. It kept collapsing even after multiple attempts to reinforce the assembly. This was WITHOUT any books or anything else placed on it. Had I never assembled a bookcase before, it might be fair to make a case that maybe it was me, not them. But I finally had to concede that trying to put these bookcases together is simply not going to happen. After several hours of frustration and attempting to build the bookcases in spite of the problems with them, I gave up and contacted Amazon for a return. I wound up going to Target and buying a pair of their similarly priced particleboard bookcases, which were of much better quality/condition and were easy to assemble, similar to the Walmart bookcases I have used in the past. These are now in the living room of my new apartment, and they look great. In general, I love Amazon, and I very rarely give anything a one star review (this may in fact be my first). But I thought that you (my fellow customers), as well as Amazon, needed to know just how poor quality this item really is. It is definitely not up to Amazon's usual standard for the items it sells. I would highly recommend that if you are looking for an economically priced particleboard bookcase, you should buy it from Target or Walmart instead of buying this one.

i got the five tier bookshelf and it is a total show of “you get what you pay for”. it wasn’t very easy to assemble and the super thin wood board used to cover the back is horrible. it wouldn’t flatten at all and the tape holding it together is incredibly tacky. not only that, but i ended up piercing through the wood a few times trying to hammer it in because of how hard it is to find where to hammer the nails in to secure it. it also feels very flimsy and not stable at all if you don’t bolt it to the wall in some way. the directions were also really confusing at some points and took well over double the time it said would take to assemble. the bookshelf isn’t bad for its price, i just would’ve waited for a different, higher quality bookshelf (even if it was more expensive) if i knew how low quality this shelf is. if you can afford a better bookshelf, avoid this one at all costs. but if this is the best you can buy, go for it!

Due to the price of these shelves I wasn't very optimistic, But compared to other smaller products but higher prices I wanted to take a chance- and I'm glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised after putting these things together- that being said if you have the patience to put these together correctly you'll also be pleasantly surprised. PATIENCE IS KEY. I remember noticing the measurements in the listing, and they seemed generous to my needs. Upon completion of assembly I noticed these were larger than I was hoping for. The instructions are informative enough and not very difficult to understand. Also note that these aren't the strongest, nor sturdiest shells in the business- But for their price tag It's a pretty good deal. One thing to remember when putting these together is DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN- this isn't real wood obviously, It's pressed wood material and it won't tolerate too much stress of over tightening. Take it easy putting these things together and both you and your wallet will be happy. Again I don't suggest these being used for very heavy items. I personally got them for my Funko Pop collection and I'm very pleased about the end result as shown in the photos I provided. The Funko Pop cases fit perfectly and it seems I have a lot more room now for additional Funko pops- that's a perk I'm very happy about lol. As shown I purchased three shelf units that fit perfectly into the space I intended. I'm addition I opted not to use the fake backboard, it would have made the case stronger but I just didn't care for it too much. Personally I think it cheapened the look. But that's just me. This is one of my many better buys. Thanks again Amazon. 👍

UPDATE: Had it for less than 2 months. Went to move it today, after having my books on it. Wanted to rearrange my space. It collapsed from the center. When I tried to put it back together, parts of the outer frame were leaning. Didn't overpack it with books AT ALL. I still have books that are in storage bins so it wasn't the books. This is a LOW QUALITY product especially for the PRICE. Literally a piece of crap. The material is CHEAP and for the price, you can go to T*arget or W*lmart and get this same shelf for the same quality for HALF THE PRICE. I thought I was going CHEAP buying this for $80+ but found the same cheap bookshelf in a a big-box store for HALF that. Don't waste your money. If you have a large collection of books, invest in a more quality bookshelf. I would NOT trust this in a kids room or a closet, no matter what the other reviews say. Going to the TRASH. Not safe. NOT STURDY no matter what people put in the review. THEY NEED TO IMPROVE THIS PRODUCT. Backboard is flimsy so the books will literally push it back and out, leaving a gap and making it look cheap. The board that hold the books collapse. It's not a sturdy product. =----------------------------------------------- For the price, I feel disappointed with the quality. It's lightweight but it's your typical somewhat flimsy book shelf, and it took me 2 hours to put together. The directions aren't as straight-forward as others have said and the pieces come with all this dust/styrofoam litter on them. The box was heavy only to find that when you put the whole shelve together it's flimsy and easily tips especially if you have carpet. I've seen lower-priced bookshelves like this as the usual big-box stores and was apprehensive about buying those, but now I'm regretting that I didn't. The back board was the most frustrating. A piece of it split and it was awkward to line up in order to tack it good enough so the back won't buckle if your books lean into it. Just a mess. I guess you get what you pay for. I was able to make it work, for now, as I have a lot of books and I was tired of them laying around my house or hiding away in a storage box, so it'll serve its purpose but now I'm back to the frustrating search to find an AFFORDABLE but sturdy shelf for the rest of my book and to replace this one. I'm just not satisfied. To each their own. I will continue my search.

Compré 2 Enserio los amé, para el precio podrías comprar de esos que están en la calle pero traen termitas o insectos, pero estos vienen limpios, color bonito, obvio no son macizos como si compraras de madera cara, pero para el precio la calidad supera mucho la expectativa, el fondo si venía un poco dañado pero repito por el precio pues pone una cinta por detrás y listo, los recomiendo 100% De hecho pedí un tercero
