Good Wood Filler to Have On Hand
We purchased the Woodwise powder to touch up defects in paint grade softwood trim. It is obviously a product for a professional amount of production or a large project such as flooring. The stuff in the little can from the big box store dries faster and has a nicer "bounce back" to make it fill holes just proud for sanding, but somehow we always end up with half-full dried cans of it. To fill just two or three little areas and then toss the can, that little can is fine.I like the Woodwise filler for the low price, comfort that there will always be enough on hand, and good overall performance. So far:• Dry to sand in less than a couple hours if fill is less than 1/8th inch thick• Excellent adhesion to clean dry wood• Excellent sanding and leveling paint grade wood defects• Excellent for large shallow area fills• Fair to good for lots of small nail holes• Poor for deep built up areas, large gashes, etc.• Sanding is easier than with “Plastic Wood”, more difficult than “Lightweight Filler”• Good fill with no air bubbles• Longer working time than BondoFor large or deep areas, or anything that needs to be ready for shaping and sanding fast, I’d use Bondo. Obviously, very deep or large defects are best cut out and repaired with real wood. Personally, I’d also favor Bondo for outdoor type exposure, however this stuff might hold up there under primer. There were no instructions for mixing. I had the best results with a sort of peanut butter consistency. The last batch I mixed a few weeks ago is still useable after sitting in a small airtight container. In dry form, it has the appearance and consistency of fine talc powdered wood mixed with dehydrated white glue and a small bit of spackle or similar - mixing with water is similar. While it is tempting to try to DIY this material, there is no economic incentive. Besides who wants to risk their project on untested mystery glop. For most people the bag will probably be like one of those things your great grandpa had laying around in the shed - still good after years and years, and still lots of it.I have not used this with stains or on wood projects for clear finishes. My projects have been entirely indoor. There has been no issue with primer adhesion or surface for painting. There is no perfect one filler fits all, but this is a solid addition to the fixing and finishing kit.

Takes Some Skill
If you follow the instructions, you are making a huge amount of wood filler. Good if you have a large project. The good news is this stuff does not dry out very fast. My suggestion is to practice with one cup and add tiny amounts of water so you see how to get the consistency you want. It seemed that no matter how much I thickened it, it still slumped, making vertical projects like walls impossible. Then I discovered if you let it sit in the bucket a couple days, it gets like putty, ideal for any project. So my final advice is to go big. Get a five gallon bucket, mix the whole bag thick, then put the lid on and store it away. You'll have wood filler for life.

Will not take stain like it says.
This stuff mixes well, works very well dries to be very solid. The only two things I did not care for were #1 When using it as a trowel filler, it does not sand off as easily as they make it seem. It was more like removing grout from tile. #2 It does not take the stain that well either. If you have any larger gaps to fill.. it will look as if you have grout lines. As I said, I'm very pleased with the product. I just ordered more. Just watch out for them two surprises. In the photos you can see the lighter colored lines is the wood filler. Hope this helps!

Just Buy It!!!
Rarely is there a product that delivers this level of performance for the money. I'm in south Florida, repairing a large pergola. Tried several pre-mixed brands and they were all junk. Not only expensive, but would dry quickly and wouldn't hold up to the weather while I completed the project before I could apply stain. The Woodwise product was easy to mix (peanut butter consistency worked best for me), allowed plenty of work time and dried rock-solid, standing up to sun and rain untreated, no problem, before I could get around to staining it. The 14 lb bag was more than enough for this large project and it's great that it can be stored indefinitely in powder form. Will update review after a few months, but see no reason why it would fail now that it's protected with waterproof stain. 100% recommended!

Wrong color arrived but the Prost works great
Original posting said Red Oak. This one is maple and ash. Very unhappy. This one dries very light. Almost white. This mix is hard to get super smooth without mechanical help. I tried making many different consistencies: thin (water) didn’t fill the gaps enough and got into many of the grain linesMedium (yogurt) filled the gaps and cracks well but really buts a beating on your arm while troweling.Thick (queso) too hard to spread, left many chunks! Too thick to fill smaller cracks, also harder to sand away when dry.I used this on a large area, about 400 square feet. It consumed about 1/3 of the bag. Overall it’s a good product, I just wish I would have received the proper color.

Works great!
We are preparing to sell our house so had a lot of “finishing” to do. This stuff works great! I used on my deck to fill pits in the deck boards, on my kitchen cabinets and on my bathroom vanity veneer! Easy to mix, easy to apply!

Wow -
This is an excellent product. I'm a hobby wood worker and this will last me years. The fact that if came in dry form was great because I just mix up what I need in a jar. Keep it wet and you can use it just like the stuff in a can from the big box stores. I gave three pounds to a carpenter who does finish work. He has since placed his own order. Thank you!!
