Hard rock, stoner rock, doom and psychedelic cosmonauts, prepare to celebrate with wild delight! Kadavar is a big black shape with eyes of fire with an immediate sound that induces "chills and numbs from head to toe." Out of the blue and into the black, the trio's thunderous gloom sounds as if it was "dug out and dusted off" and is the absolute apotheosis of the "Sabbath sound." Cathedrals in fog emerge from the speakers as Kadavar's heavy blues-rock, awesomely loud minor key dirges and Geezer Butler-esque pressure roll bass lines create a paean to the dark mesmerizing power of the distorted Blues. Howled vocals full of ominous messages expressing mental anguish and macabre fantasies fly over a seemingly endless supply of monster riffs and rhythm-section chug (including very subtle Ward-like jazz qualities!) that slowly envelope the listener in a hallucinatory haze. Handpicked by both SLEEP and PENTAGRAM as support on each of the Gods of Doom's respective European tours this summer, Kadavar's strutting style and warm, analog tones are sure to transport audiences to proto-metal oblivion. Heaven's golden chorus sings, Hell's angels flap their wings!

Best 5 bucks I have sent in a LONG time.
If your interest is peaked at all by the samples, then just BUY the MP3 album. The sound is perfect as the stereo placement reflects that of '70s metal and beyond to melt your brain and bake your eyeballs in headphone ecstasy. It's worth every red cent to rock out like the Kings of old for a grand half-hour versus stuffing your face with a fast food sub-salad-bacon-burger-wrap.The only problem is that now I want the physical CD...Note: The import version features an extra track "Living In Your Head" from their single "Creature Of The Demon" and it's extra 7 minutes of awesomeness!

Not Kadavar
This says Kadavar and the reviews are about the German band, but the music is growling hard core metal, not Kadavar. I thought I was getting an older unreleased MP3 by these guys, but nope; something entirely different. Buyer beware!

I felt like I was listening to one of my dad's records
Classic old school Black Sabbath sound through and through. I felt like I was listening to one of my dad's records, but the modern sound of Doom was present as well and kept it feeling fresh. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes Sabbath or Doom/Stoner metal.

This can't be their debut album
This is a debut album? The creativity and sound makes this album sound like they are veterans in the song writing business. They bring that authentic seventies bluesy psychedelic sound to this album. Kadavar mixes that hard rock metal doom with the seventies psychedelic that sounds oh so good to the brain. I recommend this album highly.

Astonishly Fresh Stoner Rock That Brings an Earlier Era To Mind
This is an absolutely mesmerizing album with an original and authentic sound that mandated my keeping the disc in the machine for several weeks and for about fifty spins before I pulled it out. That type of extended review happened a lot in the old days, it doesn't happen too often anymore. The sound here is so authentically vintage that I literally went over the packing with a magnifying glass expecting to see a copyright date of 1971 somewhere. But, no, apparently these German dudes are contemporary. Many of the other reviewers mention the bands they are reminded of. I'm not sure if that helps or not--I guess it depends on whether you are familiar with the comparison band. Agnes Strange, Lord Sutch and Friends, Wicked Lady, and a real obscure gem named Second Life came to my mind as I listened to these guys. Atomic Rooster also came to mind.Yes, Black Sabbath also emerges as a point of reference--but that comparison is made so often on these darker stoner albums that it is almost meaningless. I shamefully fall prey to buying many albums that are compared to Black Sabbath. I do like most of them--but this is arguably even better than all but the best Black Sabbath albums. You will not be disappointed.I bought the other Kadavar album--Abra Kadavar-- as well. It is totally worth having, but if you are going to buy just one to start I would suggest getting this one.I'd love to see these guys in concert, I hope they will tour in California sometime soon.

AWESOME STONEY SOUNDS
Well this c.d. gave me more bliss in one buy than I've had since I bought "Master of Reality" by Sabbath!!!These guys are stripped-down good old fashioned sludgy, stoney, plodding electric funeral-march goodness....I recommend this to anyone who appreciated the 70's stoner sludge and those who carry the torch to light it up!!!

These guys are onto something...
This is a great album and a amazing start for this band. The songs are all tight and rock your face, without having to do 20 guitar overdubs. The production harkens back to late-sixties and early seventies psych rock, reminiscent of Black Sabbath's first album, with guitars panned left and bass and drums panned right. I don't know how they did it, but they made the '70s retro metal-hard-rock-stoner-rock riffage sound fresh and authentic. The drums are groovin' and hard-hitting, nice dry vintage sound (and he plays the Vistalite Lugwig set, sick!) Bass is bad ass too and forms a tight rhythm section with the drums, and has a cool fuzzy tone. Guitar sounds great too, killer riffs and great solos. The guitarist is also the singer and his voice is pretty solid too, has a late '60s psychedelic vibe that complements the music well. If you're looking for a great new retro metal stoner rock band, look no further. If you love the late '60s and '70s metal and hard psychedelic rock and you want to relive the good ol' days, look no further. If you want an authentic rock sound and riffs that sound fresh and not totally rehashed, look no further than Kadavar's eponymous album.
