This film is both surprising and singular. Not for Thornton or Longoria, who are pretty much peripheral, but for the real stars and real story. Clayne Crawford, Travis Fimmel amd Daniel Cudmore portary a trio of kick ass rednecks that are simultaneously proud, tough, respectful, kind and unapologetic. The treatment of their interaction with a disabled boy, played with a nuanced touch by Thomas Brodie-Sangster, avoids either the mawkish or the cynical, and is, instead, genuine and touching. The story itself is nothing less than subversive in that it turns so many dishonest and hackneyed current cinema tropes on their heads. If you watch this movie with clear eyes you'll see how remarkable it is.
