Great product. Worked well, good quality and sturdiness. It fit my Dualit toaster because it was made by Dualit. It came in a Dualit box. Specifications are on the product box of which year models this will fit. Check your models and make sure you are buying an official Dualit product. I did think the cost was expensive, but I feel it was worth it because I wanted the brand name accessories to go with it's brand name appliance.

This has been my favorite sandwich maker. I have been using it for about 5 months. Contrary to other reviews most store bought pre-sliced bread fits perfectly. My favorite Orowheat Dill or Extra Sour Rye Bread with two slices of ham and two slices of pre- sliced cheddar overlapped side by side. I lightly butter the out side of the bread and set it about 3 and 3/4 minutes, then I let it rest a minute and then remove as this gives the cheese more time to get gooey. I trim off the edges of the two slices of cheese or fold them in beforehand to keep it tidy which creates minimal drips. They are easy to deal with if you wipe off the rack and empty the tray. I don't have do this every time, no problem! You might even be able to spray it with a nonstick spray such as Pam. It is much less maintenance than a skillet. If you are so fussy as to want each side browned perfectly the same I just switch sides midstream or put it back in on the opposite side for a minute. No toaster browns perfectly on both sides other than a single slice toaster which Dualite does make. I own the Dualite Light two (long) slice toaster. The filling options for sandwiches are endless and they provide great recipes with the product. You can use no butter if you are cutting down on the fats and can still get the grill effect, you can use olive oil but do not use margarine. Not dishwasher recommended. I am ordering a second one. The Brits are brilliant!

I just got this recently but have already made several sandwiches in it that were quite tasty! As has been noted by many, you aren't going to make a double decker, oozing sandwich with this, however, you absolutely CAN use normal sliced bread. The most important thing is to not try to put too much on the sandwich. On my first attempt I used one slice of ham and one piece of Swiss cheese. It worked perfectly and tasted delicious. I also made a tuna melt which was also very good. You must also go very light with the butter so it doesn't drip all over. My 4 star rating is only because the builders of these products (toaster and sandwich cage) SHOULD make the slots a little wider. That would allow more room for artisanal breads AND a more satisfying sandwich. I am happy with the sandwiches that I make with this because it forces me to eat lighter and I can get a tasty, hot, melted cheese sandwich quickly without dragging out a griddle or skillet or using more butter than I really need. It is worth noting here that for a hearty eater, one of these sandwiches will probably not be filling enough. I also bought the warming rack and that is great for lots of quick warm ups such as heating up hot dog and hamburger buns which I always refrigerate so they stay fresh longer. While cooking your meat, place your bun on the warming rack...works great!

I was skeptical about sticking butter and cheese in a toaster. It just didn’t seem logical. But it is fantastic. Quick. Surprisingly little mess. Tasty sandwiches. Butter the outside (trust the process) and you get very close to pan-cooked grilled cheese. You do need thin-sliced bread and even then need to give the holder a little squeeze.

UPDATE: I am updating this review only as a result of reading others’ reviews. If one reads the instructions or watches Dualit’s videos, when making sandwiches, one should follow the British way of making sandwiches since this is a British product—cut off the crusts for a better sandwich, although not strictly necessary. Next, these cages are NOT meant to make a grilled cheese sandwich. The operative word in this name of the sandwich is ‘Grilled.’ One is not grilling the sandwich. One is toasting a sandwich; ergo, the result is a toasted cheese sandwich. If one expects to end up with a grilled cheese sandwich—well, one will be out of luck. So, when reviewing the product or even purchasing these cages, don’t give it a 1-star rating simply because it does not grill your sandwich or because it burns your crusts. The result will be a wrongful and not helpful review of the product. Although these Sandwich Cages are made by Dualit and for the Dualit Classic NewGen and Dualit other model toasters, they will work in other branded toasters as well. I love a toasted sandwich and I tried it out to see how good a toasted sandwich could be. So, I made the easiest sandwich which is one of my favorites—a simple grilled cheese sandwich. Of course, this is a toasted cheese sandwich. Following the directions, I buttered the outside of two pieces of white bread, and placed two slices of American cheese in the middle with three slices of sweet pickles, folded the two pieces of bread to make into a sandwich and closed the sandwich cage. As a warning, I prepared the bottom buttered slice of bread sitting on the out-folded sandwich cage. Then I took my second sandwich cage and did the same thing. I put both cages into my new Dualit NewGen toaster (the toaster the sandwich cages were actually made for), popped them into the slots 1 and 2, lowered them and locked them in place, and set the timer to just a little past the · (dot) and waited for them to toast. When you butter your bread, make sure you brush the bread with the butter or at least insure that you use softened butter that spreads thinly on the bread. If you spread the butter too thickly, it will leak into the toaster which is a definite no-no. When the toasting was finished, I had two beautifully toasted cheese and pickle sandwiches. The cheese was not melted like a grilled cheese sandwich, but rather was slightly melted—melted enough to not fall out of the bread—enough to be warm to the touch. The pickles were cold out of the refrigerator and they were also warm to the touch. These sandwich cages are a great way to make this new twist on a traditional classic—the ubiquitous sandwich, and just different enough to be crunchy to the taste and wonderful to eat.

I love this thing! It gives me a healthier alternative to my beloved grilled cheese sandwiches. All you need is decent cheese and a teaspoon of butter. A good cheese slicer that can give you nice thin slices also helps. Unlike others, I find this fits my regular super market brand of bread fine -- Orowheat. It also makes clean up a lot easier. It's convenient too -- you can heat your soup while the sandwich is cooking away. I felt silly ordering it but am so glad I did. Plus, it's saving me money. When I'm thinking about takeout as an alternative to cooking, I do this instead as it is quicker, cheaper and mostly tastier.

Purchased this item as soon as we got out toaster and we've used it 4 times - I'm sick and tired of this rubbish. Granted, it is a great concept but that's about it. If you want to prepare a toast with any filling that adds ,ore than 2mm thickness (thin slice of cheese), then forget about it - you are up for a mess..I would return the 2 cages but my wife wants to keep them... I definitely don't recommend this item to anyone.
