You can do it!
First time masonry worker here, a white-collar dude, who was told by the handyman that the crumbling concrete on the doorsteps would need $2500 to replace. Well, 70 dollars of material and this handy-dandy tool, plus a weekend of work meant that I was home free for under 100. Take care to get rid of the concrete from the tool after each use. If I could do it, you certainly can. Go for it!

This trowel is not pre-broken-in.
I really like this trowel. In fact this is now the 2nd one I've purchased. Its very comfortable to use, and fits in my hand perfectly. Takes about a day of hard use to get it broken in, but after that I doubt you will ever go back to Marshalltown, or Kraft tools after using this trowel

Not the best for smoothing concrete.
Straight edge difficult to work with. Keeps biting into concrete as you attempt to smooth it out. Need a beveled edge tool for ease of use.
