Bill Murray, Janeane Garofalo, Matthew McConaughey and Linda Fiorentino star in a family film thatwill amuse adults as much as it entertains children (Gannett News), while offering a trunkful of love, laughter and excitement they'll want to experience again and again! Jack Corcoran (Murray) is thrilled when he learns that his father, a former circus clown, has left him a very big inheritance. But when Jack learns that the large legacy is Vera, an 8,000-pound elephant, he immediately makes plans to sell her'to a buyer 3,000 miles away! Thus begins the most outrageous cross-country journey ever, complete with crazed truck drivers, hilarious run-ins with the law and one lovelorn elephant who stretches the limits of travel size but is really big on charm!

Heartwarming dramatic comedy animal adventure for the whole family
I disliked that Jack's mother lied about her husband, telling son Jack that his father had died. I also was saddened that there was no financial provision for care of the elephant. However, it was a good story line, somewhat believable. I liked the part where the elephant saved the church in New Mexico village that was flooded. The ending was great, since Jack did the right thing and did not allow Vera to become a 7 day a week slave to the circus. The fact that she was a fertile female to help enlarge the Sri Lanka herd was a good part of the story. It left you curious as to how long it took Jack to recover his financial losses and if he had serious legal problems due to hijacking Tip Top's rig and stealing the rig that got Vera to the Air Force plane. I loved what happened to Tip Top at the airport. Good recompense for his lack of compassion. Really fun movie to watch and will probably view it again. Safe to watch with the whole family.

Loved this the first time, loved it again!
What a charmer and teaches us what is important in life. Great acting on all levels. Wish I could meet Vera once more as I did in right after the movie came out.

Enjoyed it all minus 1
This was a wonderfully funny movie for the entire family minus ONE part that referred to "elephants mating" in a non-scientific way. I immediately fast-forwarded that part. Other than that unnecessary dirty ditch in the road, we enjoyed this comedy with Bill Murray and "Vera" the adorable elephant. Loved all the animals, relatable characters & variety in this movie. We would definitely watch it again and still laugh out loud (as well as a few heartfelt tears).

They can't make movies like this anymore
With all the animal rights restrictions you forget that people once interacted with real animals and not just computer-generated creations. Watching this reminded me when I got to ride an elephant at the San Diego wild animal park as a boy and watching or feeding the elephants peanuts at the zoo. This is a fun movie mostly between Bill Murray and an elephant who changes his life. Most of us could use a cross-country trek with an elephant to put things in perspective.I had a lot of fun watching this one. If you are sensitive to such things there is a scene where two characters are trying to picture how elephant babies are made by describing how human babies are made. Not too graphic for children but some might take offense.

Entertainment for the entire family
If you didn't like this movie, then you probably are not able to appreciate one of the world's most amazing animals - elephants. Everyone should experience a day with an elephant, and not necessarily in zoos where animals are confined, but in nature's preserves that are being created in greater number as we use our instinctive wisdom to care for the world. These creatures will delight and mystify you with their intelligence and ability to mesh with people. They are so smart and terribly abused by those who use them as entertainment venues. They love it when you ride on their shoulders which is the correct way and they will protect you with their lives. Therefore with that said, I loved this movie - it opens the heart in every way. So cute, funny, sweet, and genuine to the character of the royal elephant - the movie, most of them, are lovable. Bill Murray is at his very best, warm, compassionate, earthy; you could tell he really loved working with this elephant - it was no act. This is a wonderful family movie that will warm the heart and give people faith in humanity. Highly recommend it.

Not a mad-cap screwball comedy but an excellent flim.
Touching and well scripted, Murray pulls it off brilliantly. One of his better films. Tai (elephant) was a joy to watch. While there were only a few chuckles, this movie is very well worth the watch. The journey and development of the relationship was as enjoyable as simply watching such a magnificent animal.Don't miss.

Enjoyable movie to watch with kids
This was a funny movie -- good to watch with kids. Only problem is one scene where a truck driver talk about how "elephants do it". This was inappropriate for little children. I don't understand why movies that would be perfect to watch with children have the occasional scene or dialogue that is not age appropriate. My little ones ignored that conversation. Otherwise it was an enjoyable movie with some uplifting messages. The scenes with the Southwestern Hispanic populations and the Native Americans, though brief, were particularly poignant.
