Unlikeable hero
In some senses, I liked the book because of the heroine. I didn't really like the hero's character or the absence of some realisations on his part - sure he changes his mind later - but never realizes the folly of his own understanding about cooly decidimg he wants alleable young wife ' or the folly of pressing his suit over seventeen year old girls. The ogre bit was also too stretched.

Unusual for me, I didn't skip any pages
Lady Isabella Knox rescues a young girl running away from a marriage her grandfather is forcing upon her to Major Nicholas Reynolds. As Harriet describes him, Lady Isabella inadvertently declares 'A veritable ogre!" Deciding to help, she returns to London with the girl in tow, while she promises to find the long lost aunt Harriet is searching for.At a ball, Lady Isabella inadvertently repeats the 'ogre' phrase when told he is her friend's cousin. Overheard, it spreads like wild fire and causes much embarrassment and anger to the said Major who is badly scarred facially. Realising her words have caused this trouble and full of guilt, Lady Isabella sets out to make amends and befriends him.I liked the characters of Nicholas and Isabella. They were crisp and refreshing throughout the story. Their interaction was written well and kept me entertained till the end. I didn't skip one page which I frequently do in books of this genre.

Loved this
This was a great book. Very well written and with the depth of character analysis and emotion of Mary Balogh. I've already started working my way through Emily Larkin's other novels - of which there are several thank goodness!

Best read for ages
I purchased the book yesterday and finished it today. I loved the storyline, the characters and the era. Historical novels are my favourite and this did not disappoint. I shall look for more books by this author.
