9VAC power supply works for Behringer FBQ800, but bigger and more wattage than required
I ordered and received from Amazon the Behringer MiniFBQ FBQ800 Ultra-Compact 9-Band Graphic Equalizer (ASIN B000MJ406Y). Nowhere in the product description is there any indication of what main power supply is needed for the unit. Nowhere does it say 220 vac, 230 vac, or 240 vac. However, the power supply unit shipped to my US address with the product requires a 220 - 240 VAC supply! The plug style is for UK and AUS, not US. And it is not sufficient to just use a plug converter. The power supply that came with it requires 220 - 240 VAC, not 120 VAC. I considered sending the unit back, but then discovered THIS 9 VAC power supply from Behring and ordered it from Amazon. My FBQ800 unit only requires 750mA at 9 VAC. This power supply delivers up to 1300mA at 9 VAC and consumes up to 16 watts. So it is intrinsically larger, heavier and more heat-generating than a power supply properly sized. I looked high and low, but was unable to find a properly sized Behringer unit for my FBQ800 for 120 VAC. That said, this unit does indeed work fine, but it is quite massive and HEAVY, and gravity wants to pull it away from a wall mounted power strip. So, even though I had the Behringer brand supply in place and working, I searched further for other sources which were not Behringer branded equipment. I found a Jameco ReliaPro branded "wall wort" 9 VAC transformer rated for 1000mA, 12.5 watts, much closer to my needs (Jameco Part no.157041). I have included photos comparing the Behring unit and the other unit I have since put in place of the Behringer, so you can see a physical size comparison.PRO: it works for my MiniFBQ FBQ800CON: it is large, heavy and power-consuming, more so than I need

Held together with model airplane glue
This is the second one I bought. Tube preamps draw a lot of power and the power supply runs hot. It is actually just a 9VAC step-down transformer. The combination of excessive heat and the heavy weight for a 1.3A supply causes the glue to fail after 11 months of continuous duty. The power supply is held together with polystyrene (aka model airplane) glue. The power supply draws 16W at 120VAC, but delivers only 12W at 9VAC. The missing 4W heats up the power supply, melting the glue. The enclosure needs some screws rather than rely on the glue to support the mass of the transformer.I am going to fix the next one with a tie wrap to hold it together and not run it continuously.

Fell apart after less than six months usage!
Wow. It literally fell apart, broke into pieces just being plugged in and in-use for less than 6 months! What a piece of garbage!
