Introduction to Optical Mineralogy

This book helped me through so many classes wish I just bought it the first time around.

IS A VERY GOOD BOOK, VERY HIGH LEVEL EXPLAIN, BUT EXCELLENT FOR A POST GRADUATE LEVEL, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SEEN COLOR IMAGES AND MORE MICROCOSPIC PICTURES OF THE CONCEPTS BUT IS JUST THE ONLY ONE THING THAT I WOULD CHANGE

It is the best book on optical mineralogy. I like it very much. but it is very silimar with the 3rd edition. the author only made few revisements.

I paid over a hundred dollars for a book that had four rental stickers on it, binding on top and bottom was torn over 3” each, the front cover was peeling up, and literally looked like it was dropped more times than Sloth from the Goonies. It’s disgusting how they are marking up prices on textbooks for students that are trashed! Good usable condition? Lol. Bless your heart…

This book would have gotten 5 stars had there been color images. That being said, there is a very well printed interference colors chart in the back of the book. One of the things I love about Nesse's books is that he has the ability to write so that the content is not excessively dry. The text from my petrology class poorly explained optics and was filled with more jargan than anything. Nesse uses illustrations and explains when jargan is necessary. If you are a petrology instructor, I highly suggest this book for your class.

Great book, but only gets 3 stars because this is a subject where color is important, and there are no color images. I have bought books for other classes like history that are in color when they don't need to be, so why isn't this one is color? Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Great resource for beginners - a good companion for an undergraduate course. I used this book to learn independently, and found that it was the best resource out of all the materials I had selected. Very useful figures, and principals are explained clearly.

A very good book. I will recommend every geology student to have it for the optical mineralogy part in mineralogy.
