None of this happened. All four worked out of the box, first time and no issues with putting the covers back on at all. They are bright enough for a tent or an emergency. They are not designed or intended for full lighting of a room. I am happy. We occasionally have power outages where we live and these are perfect for our situation. I might buy another set. Because of the clip and the ability to hang the light it would be perfect for a roadside breakdown, so I am considering a couple for our car.
