Overall , A great radio for a enthusiast . Only drawback was the AC charger adapter. It is for 110 v a/c.

Standardized on this radio for the family 10 years ago [before software defined radios SDR were much of a thing which is an entirely different journey then using our Eton Elite Executive Radios]. We now have four units. None of them have had any issues out of their boxes. All have functioned perfectly. We have had to replace a couple broken antennas before I just started buying PLUG-IN / ALLIGATOR CLIPPED little portable reel, long wire antennas that can plug right into the radio. I also tried a slinky antenna with the wire soldered to the slinky, and connected via alligator clip to the Eton antenna. Signal strength actually increases on FM reception as I stretch out the coils, until reception decreases when the coils are stretched too far. Great sound for FM talk and music, within the radio's speaker limits. If you want more volume plug-in headphones or external speakers. The first unit picked up short wave stations to Northern California, from England, the Caribbean, half a dozen different states as far away as Tennessee. And all I did was use alligator clips to connect the Eton whip antenna to the coax cable from an abandon small 24/36 inch satellite dish facing south. Obviously I was getting great ionosphere Skip. After a little head scratching as I tried to decipher the user manual, I turned to YouTube University where there are lots of tutorials. 10 years later, i would not say the radio is difficult to use, but there are so many features that each button on the radio has different functions. You can long press AND quick/short press the buttons while the radio is on, AND WITH THE RADIO OFF certain button can have a third function (yes, I said with the radio off certain buttons have additional functions.) In the beginning of my learning curve I used a notepad. But at this point I just refer to the manual and see if anybody's got a YouTube tutorial on the function I'm trying to use. There are two sets of reset instructions, with one of them just bringing the radio back to the way it was from the factory. They are easy to reset in case you get confused and overwhelmed and want to start over (something I have done a few times :-). One example I will give is how the Eton radios features allow me to listen to San Francisco Giants games broadcast on KNBR 680 AM whose tower is about 100 miles from me. First I bought a Grundig AN200 A.M. antenna booster. No batteries are needed, and for me there is little difference between plugging the external antenna booster in and just orienting it around the radio to a position which provides the strongest signal. There is a dial which roughly corresponds to the A.M. frequency you're trying to draw in, so KNBR at 680 is on the left side of the dial going up to 1700. With the AN200 a.m. booster, I get four of nine bars of signal strength. Then I begin using features that are not available on standard AM radios: first I slow step the frequency one hertz at a time above and below 680. Best reception on a clear day is 681. The next thing I do is try the band pass filters which run from 2.5 all the way up to 6. The best reception is 3. In the beginning, I liked that ETON designed a graphic for each number so you could see that 2.5 was a thin filter on both sides of 680 and six had the broadest signal as well as noise allowed in. My ear could discern / hear a lot more noise at four than three. 4 to 6, not only let in a lot more noise into the radio signal, but they also increase the treble. [a sidenote -if there's clouds, it makes it hard to hear the games and the daytime is better than night games.] Of course I can hear any repeaters folks have installed on the mountain tops that are line of sight. So the local public broadcasting as well as public broadcasting from the coast are both strong F.M. signals. I also get KDFC classical, and the Christian Satellite Network off two other FM repeaters. Over the years, I have tried to use the RDS signal that piggybacks some FM radio stations, but apparently radio station engineers (or techs) don't keep their stations clocks accurately so I just turned off that F.M. feature. The air band is fun either listening to local airport traffic or the big iron flying the pattern into the San Francisco Bay area. Short wave is available, depending on the time of the 11 year solar season and or ionosphere skip as mentioned earlier. There are a number of features available as you tune in to listen to short wave like upper and lower side band filters [think radio communications between Rebel star fighters trying to destroy the death star], single side band, Slow / small,, fast / large, and stop / lock frequency adjustments, a DX / local switch on the side of the radio that I find improves local signals that are to strong for using DX, three ways to tune the radio using the automatic tuner, or just manually put in the frequency, for example hitting 680 and the a.m. button goes directly to KNBR, etc. The number of stations available for listening are defined by our rurality, so I rarely have stored more than three of the 99 pages available, each page holds seven stations. The Eton has an alarm clock with a buzzer or your favorite radio station just like in the old days as well as a sleep timer, so it will turn itself off after you've gone to sleep, listening to Tchaikovsky:-) This radio has more features like the ability to record broadcast or plug-in amplified stereo speakers for bigger sound as mentioned previously. For the money, I think this is a very strong value multiple band radio. If you want the option of listening to radio over the air, the Eton Elite Executive Radio is worth some of your time to see if it fits your needs.
