Polymaker ASA Filament 1.75mm Black 1KG, UV & Weather Resistant

I've just begun printing ASA successfully, so I bought several spools of this, in different colors, to do some actual production. Up 'til now I've just been learning how to get it to lay down on the build plate and to adhere to each subsequent layer. I am tickled pink (or maybe I should say "tickled red") with this material. I thought printing ASA would be difficult, but with this product, it's an absolute breeze. Keep your chamber temp above 40c and you're golden. I will buy much more of this Polymaker ASA. As for details: No tangles Flexible to a point, but not hard to break either. Take care as you load it. Good value considering I have a lot few failed prints. Actually none so far with this filament. Fully compatible with all my printers (two Centauri Carbons with high flow nozzles, one Centauri, and one Sovol SV08 Max) Finished prints are beautiful. Minimum layer lines and can be sanded or vapor smoothed. Update: I've now been printing ASA for a couple months and have tried several of Polymaker Polylite ASA's colors and they're all excellent. Layer adhesion (with enclosed, actively heated, chamber @50-55C) is amazing. No warping either.

I purchased this ASA specifically for functional parts that would be used outdoors. It printed well and produced strong, clean-looking finished pieces. ASA is a better choice than standard PLA for projects exposed to sunlight and changing temperatures, and this filament worked great for that purpose.

First and foremost, this was my first time ever printing in ASA. Initially, I started with ABS but could not stand the smell. Even with my air purifier on high, it was horrible. Out of the box it had alot of moisture that made it unbearable to print with so tbh, im never touching the stuff. Looking for alternatives, Polymaker came up and decided to check them out for the first time. I'd only ever printed PLA but mostly PETG. This project required either ABS or ASA for thier properties. If you've never printed with either of these, its not for the faint of heart. I liked Polymaker alot better as the smell wasn't so nauseating. Subtle with no enclosure and barely noticable with. I always run an air purifier that can filter any offgassing. I plan to print a nevermore filter also. It was a challenge for me to get this dialed in but in the end, this is what worked: - The bed really needs to be properly leveled, I cannot stress this enough. - I have a flex plate with a piece of probably 1mm pei on it. I sanded it to get it scuffed up with 80 grit sand paper (didn't have textured pei so this was the alternative). Washed it with dish soap, dried it and wiped it down with iso alcohol 90%. - Enabled Linear Advance and used teaching tech's video to configure (easy). This is optional but I've been hearing about it and found that it truly does improve the quality of the print. - Ensured that Z/ESteps were configured (I had to change extruders). The calibration cubes all measured the correct size. - Adjusted the flow rate. This really needs to be checked to avoid over extrusion even if the steps are correct. - Use elmers glue stick (the xtreme version). Believe me, I experienced warping when first attempting to print this. Initially, tried ASA juice/slurry which I advise against because it reeks and is a PITA to clean. Also tried sugar water which is laughable but seems to work for some. Get the glue stick. It's cheaper, water soluble, non-toxic and it just works. Not spending $20+ for the competition. Just run your flex plate under water and boom. If using on a bed take something to wipe it off (safely) if needed. Done cleaning. - Consistent heat. Do a PID tune. I found that this was one of the main reasons for warping. Whether using your printer in an enclosure or wherever, make sure there are no windy drafts of air. Also, I was used to setting certain temperatures for the first layer then reducing it when printing PETG. Not this time. Leave it be. - I stopped using brims. They work to reduce warping/corner lift but I can't stand them. Even though this ASA is relatively easy to sand, its annoying to remove/post-process especially when you have alot of small parts. Settings/Printer: Tevo Tornado Prusa Slicer 250 Nozzle Bed is preheated for 10m (heat soak) 90 bed (truly dont need to go higher than this) 2 skirt lines Draft protection (hey it works but is probably not needed) I highly recommend this brand. Once you get things dialed in, it prints like butter. No moisture issues as the filament is well vaccum sealed and I keep all of my filament in an airtight container with dessicant at rest and in use. Love the natural color.

This ASA filament has been an absolute standout performer on my Elegoo Centauri Carbon. From the very first print, I was impressed by how effortlessly it handled a material that’s often considered challenging. I’m currently printing a full-scale tank using a 100°C bed and a 270°C nozzle, pushing the machine at incredibly fast speeds—and the results are flawless. Where most ASA recommendations emphasize slow printing to avoid issues, this setup completely defies expectations. The layer adhesion is excellent, surface finish is clean, and there’s no warping or defects in sight. If you’re looking for an ASA that delivers both speed and quality without compromise, this is it. Combined with the Centauri Carbon, it’s a powerhouse pairing that produces consistently professional results. Highly recommended for anyone who wants reliability and performance at the next level.

I use ASA for exterior parts due to its UV resistance. My latest project was to repair a fin car antenna on a blue car. I designed a base and then printed it so the new antenna would attach. Dealer wants over $400 for an antenna. I got the blue one on eBay for $10 plus probably $1 worth of filament. This filament prints well and seems to be durable.

I've been very happy with this ASA. It prints great on my Bambu H2D and I haven't had any major issues getting good prints from it. The print quality has been consistent and it has worked well for the projects I've used it for. No complaints.

Look let's be honest. Polymaker makes GREAT filament. It prints well runs true to color, does not arrived tangled, does not clog nozzles and is just all around outstanding. Unfortunately they ONLY provide it on cardboard spools and I simply cannot recommend you order cardboard spooled filament from Amazon. Amazon damages at least 1 out of every 2 cardboard spools they deliver to me and that damage means the spools won't run in my AMS. I love Polymaker and would use their filament exclusively if they would offer refills that I could install on my existing plastic spools.

This is my first Polymaker filament and it is fantastic. One safety note before delving into the review: ** Styrene in ASA (and also ABS) produces toxic fumes when 3D printed. Please ensure you have a well ventilated area where you plan on printing. ** Pros: - Prints very well, and easily. I would compare it to PLA in terms of how easily it prints. - Seems to be much stronger and resistant to snapping when bending (with respect to PLA). - Can withstand higher temperatures and UV. - With respect to ABS, the fumes are lessened. - ASA prints with more of a satin to matte type of appearance. - The black color is interesting in the sense that it seems to pick up on colors around it. Cons: - ASA specific: Toxic fumes when printing, higher heat bed required, more prone to warping, enclosure possibly needed - Possible con: The filament on a new spool seems to be wider in diameter with respect to other manufacturers. If you happen to have a Bambu Lab AMS with filament guides (mod), you may have issues with retraction when completing a project. Note: This comment is regarding the overall diameter of the filament on the spool, not the filament itself. I had shied away from ASA and ABS with the preconceived notion that it would be more finicky than PETG. I was pleasantly surprised that is much easier! Polymaker will definitely be a go to from now on! If you're remotely interested - get it!

Yes. (The white I have constant clogs with I wouldn't buy it ever again. I've changed my nozzle 5 times now upped heat nothing helps. Increased to .6 nozzles still clogging in under 5 layers) In my experience Polymaker filament has been great. Some of the most consistent ASA I have used. Without a doubt. Low smell, great print quality. It's a little more money than some of the other brands, but I have experienced some of the other brands lower priced ASA and it isn't close to the same performance. From layer separation issues to poor bed adhesion, but not on polymakers. Some of then cheaper ASA's that regularly go onsale for 40% off here on Amazon I was able to crush parts in 1 hand as if they were made out of Matte PLA. I have never had this issue with Polymaker and after that experience I ordered in a bunch more rolls of Polymakers ASA. I have had 1 issue with natural white filament not sticking to my build plate and it was replaced immediately. No questions asked, a new roll was sent immediately. Great service. It's to the point where I am pretty much exclusively printing Polymaker's ASA. I don't generally give out glowing reviews, but Polymaker has treated me right when I have had issues, and they produce a high quality product while supporting the community. You really can't ask for much more.
