Not bad, still too many pages of romantic self talk
This book is much better that some of the other romantic novel books by the author. It has a more believable plot that continues to move along, which is good. And the characters are better, especially KC the young looking FBI playing a bad girl. That role seems almost believable (except she doesn't change clothes through the whole novel...)And thank heavens, this book doesn't have the endless pages of "romantic" self-doubt, second guessing, cha-cha back and forth, fight and make up, etc that those other books had. Thank heavens. This time the self-doubt and self-talk was much more one-sided (thank heavens), without the unbelievable cha-cha.Having said that, there was still too much unbelievable romantic self-doubt in the last half of the book. Right in the middle of the plot, suddenly the author puts you through 2 or 3 pages of a character analyzing their self-doubt about another character. Quite jarring. I think about 1/2 of the self-talk would start to be in the right amount, or even less. I thought the romantic connections and tension in the first half of the book were far more reasonable, perhaps because they were mentioned in a sentence or two, as a character thought about the idea, rather than the author forcing readers through 3 or 4 pages of self-talk.Of the author's books that I've read (I think about 3 or 4 by now, see my other reviews), this is the best one yet. The Ops #2 book is not quite as good, I think, but still way better than the earlier books. As a read, this book moved along, and fulfilled its function for me as escapist reading. So I would recommend it if the price is right (I bought it on a Kindle daily deal.)

Loved the suspense and intrigue
Undercover, disgraced marine, Chase Westin is returning home to his small town to take down a drug lord and to stop weapons from being sold to criminals. Chase's brother Jay, hasn't seen big brother since he visited him in Leavenworth and now he shows up on Christmas Eve. KC is the punk looking teenager with purple hair, leather vest and chains. She is hanging around Jay Westin and the towns bad guy son. You would never guess she is a special agent helping Jay get undercover and out of town before all hell breaks lose after he witnessed a murder. KC and Chase have no idea the true identity of the other and each plays havoc in each others plans. What they both didn't expect to add to the mix of the chaos is that they would fall for each other. I really enjoyed this book. It was a page turner with all the ingredients of suspense, romance and intrigue. You never really knew who the good guys and bad guys were until the end of the book. It isn't a fast reading book, as you really need to concentrate on "who" is "who" in the story. I thought the characters were strong and realistic. The romantic part wasn't over bearing and didn't take away so much from the story. The ending of the book was great and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Action packed drama
CJ Lyons has a way of telling a story that grabs you from Page 1 and won't let you go till the end except when it is a series and she carries the same intensity into each book of the series.Chasing Shadows is the first book in Ms. Lyons Shadow Ops Series.A war hero who is playing the role of a disgraced Marine and then he goes undercover to help a secret government agency get control of a illlegal arms shipments being ditributed throughout the US to some very nasty guys.Chase Westin gets caught up into some situations that he's not sure he will get out and at the same time he is trying to protect his kid brother who is also involved in the situation having witness one of the guys dealing the illegal weapons kill someone. Into the mix is an undercover FBI agent who break rules left and right to get done what she has to get done. KC definitely catches Chase's eye. There is two different agencies working to resolve this but do not realize it until the whole thing is about to come to a head.Chase Westin will take you on a nail biting ride of action and drama.Hold onto your seats because it will be an exciting ride.

Chasinf Shadows
Chasing Shadows by CJ Lyons is fast-paced, riveting and sexy. I was pleasantly surprised. At first I thought CJ Lyons was a man the way this author writes no nonsense, hard hitting scenes. I love the way her novel evolves. I must say I took an instant liking to KC, not so much to Chase at first until I saw him more and more through KCs eyes. She is the kind of woman everyone dreams of being. There were a couple of discrepancies in one love scene, but that can be overlooked, because the scene is so steamy that you want to keep reading. I enjoyed Chasing Shadows so much and I was so taken by ATF agent Lucky Cavanaugh that I bought Lost In Shadows. Reviewed by Heide Katros Winter Haven News, Florida

Fast paced suspense!
The twists of this story keep you on the edge of your seat. The hero Chase Westin is certainly a character that stands out. He's not sure about trusting KC, and he can't quite get a grip on his feelings for her, which rage quietly inside him every time she's around. The current that flows between them is very apparent, and KC gives a lot of heat to the story and keeps him guessing on who she is and where she fits in the deal with the a man who's running guns to an evil group whose plans are certain to reek havoc in the country wherever they end up. Tension is high and you can feel it throughout the story.I recommend this book and will be purchasing the 2nd book in this series!

Chase and KC
I really liked this first book in the series! I loved all the twists and turns and how it made me try and figure out what was going to happen next. I loved KC and her attitude, but Lucky is my favorite because of all he endured and overcame. I liked that the reader knew who the good guys were, who the bad guys were, and to watch them battle with each other. If your looking for HOT sex than this book isn't for you, but if your looking for a great plot, lots of kick-ass action, and some really cool characters, than this book is for you. I'm looking forward to the next 2 books in this series.

Great story, exceptionally well written.
I really enjoyed this book. The twists and turns kept me reading until 6:30 in the morning - and I have to be up by 9! The good guys get hurt, a lot, and you don't find out until right near the end who survives.Characters were great, with the two females strong with loads of charisma. Towards the end there is a passage where they are almost diametrically opposed, and they are so well characterized that I found myself feeling empathy for them both, and couldn't decide Who I wanted to win.I don't often read this genre. Now I am hooked and trying to convince my tired brain that a few hours of sleep are more desirable than starting the next book.

Wonderful, with follow ups...
Gripping and fast paced from the start. Chase and KC are characters with depth; personalities that draw you in to the story. The story line is obviously well researched and scarily detailed. The main draw for me was that once I had found this book there were more linked books to follow - the characters overlap and it helps to read them in order (which I did), although it is not necessary. Definitely an author I will buy more from. Congratulations CJ Lyons, on a story well told.

Really fast moving
This is the first book I have read by this author but it will most certainly not be the last. Have already started on the second biook in this trilogy and it is proving to be just as good as the first.
