Essential
The Texas plains were soaked with blood as a result of the nineteenth century Indian wars. There are many good secondary accounts dealing with battles and incidents, but they are not a substitute for the working papers of the officials and others dealing with the problem. This set includes correspondence, lists of engagements and frankly gruesome descriptions of victims of encounters with Indian warriors.. These volumes are essential for research and as a source to be dipped into for a realistic understanding of how contemporaries saw the wars. One caution: this collection reflects the views of Texans and is not intended as a balanced account giving equal weight to the Indian point of view.

Great for historical writers.
As a writer of historical novels set predominately on the 1860s-1870s Texas frontier, I have found this set of books invaluable to my research. I have particuarly found them helpful writing my latest novel "Land of the Kiowa." If you are a writer or history buff, then buy the Texas Indian Papers and save yourself a lot time searching through old documents. Most likely what you are seeking can be found in these volumes.
