The 4d armrest armrest pad can be moved in parallel left and right by pressing the button, but the 3d armrest pad cannot be moved in parallel

Q: Are the arm rests a soft cushion or hard plastic?

They have a bit of padding, but I got some covers for extra cushion

Q: are these replacement arms universal or will they fit any similar style chair?

I don’t know if there is a universal size. Measure the distance between bolt holes on your chair the measurements are on the sellers page. That’s what I did to ensure they would work before buying.
