I get them wet before and make sure to losen up a small "hole," in the soil then push them in; they can break easily because they are clay. And, I bury them deep enough that the wine bottles are held securely. Probably want to dig them out and store them in colder climates, so the soil does not freeze around them and cause them to break. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plants Alive! *by L***L on Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2018* These stakes saved my plants. We soaked them first, made a hole in the soil and put a long neck wine bottle filled with water in the stake. My plants did not shed one leaf. While away, I could not let myself think of what I may return to (dead plants). Some of my plants are 25 years old! I was so happy to see my beautiful plants just the way I left them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ WONDERFUL !!!!! *by S***. on Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2020* Fill a Coke bottle of whatever with water and place in the holder and it will gently feed for weeks. I love it !! --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/40200178-skemix-set-of-4pcs-plant-waterer-spikes-vacation-watering-stakes](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/40200178-skemix-set-of-4pcs-plant-waterer-spikes-vacation-watering-stakes) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-09*
