I try to leave the oil on for 30 min and no more. If it absorbs too much, you will never get it to dry. Every project I have done has taken at least 15 days to semi-dry and then another 15 to fully. (area and temp will change drying times) If you are using PTO on food type surfaces, use what the Real Milk Paint website for a recommended mix. (non-toxic) If its for a project, cut it 50/50 with mineral spirits (not turpentine) on the first coat and straight PTO on the rest. You must (if possible) HAND RUB it into the wood. The heat from the friction is what helps the wood absorb it. Some woods will absorb it easily without rubbing but hard dense woods like beech, are very difficult. It worked great and left the wood with a beautiful color. It went on well - used a paintbrush. Applied 2-3 coats. It does take a while to soak in and dry out.
