Does not work with 480i component from my dvd player. no hdmi output to tv. the dvd player ok with component to tv. tried other cables, power. help?

I believe this only works with devices outputting 720p and up with no upscaling of resolution at all. Plus you have to have component RCA jacks with the matching colors and not just the normal 3 of yellow, white, and red RCA plugs or it may not work at all. And keep in mind that it only goes from RCA TO HDMI, not the other way around. And are you sure you have it plugged in with the power adapter wall plug it comes with? Check connections and try again. .... .... yes, it needs its own power source!

Using this to connect an old bose lifestyle system to a new lg tv. dvds playing on the bose come through only in black and white? why?

Not sure why it's coming in b/w but i had issues with mine for my ps2 it made a lines similar to screen tearing on non- progressive scan mode games and some colors were off as well. Everything now is basically full digital old hardware on new stuff doesn't work anymore sorry.

Does this really support 4k as you advertise because in the about this item section it shows 1080p and 4k is 2160p?

I have it. I think they meant that it can be connected to a 4k TV. It only outputs to 1080p@60Hz but some tv's will upscale to a near 4k signal now a days when connected to the correct HDMI. So it technically supports being connected to a 4k TV if that helps any.
