This gorgeous white nephrite jade kirin carving is rare and fine. The fanciful kirin is dancing along a shaded glen, its well formed legs raised and prancing, the carving embellished with beautiful designs. The cuts into the jade stone are accentuated with a brown dye, which makes the kirin more visible against the white jade background. I paired this pre-1800 antique carving with a 12 mm rare off white polished fossil beads and a gold filled bail. The fossil coral beads harmonize with the ivory white jade, having similar gray and brown lights in both. The finishing tubes are brass with a gold leaf overlay. The antique carving is unusually large, 3.5" x 2" x .25", of a lovely creamy white jade. tone. The front of the carving is in perfect condition, but there is a tiny chip missing from the top right of the back of the carving, noted on the fourth photo as an almost imperceptible dark spot, because of which I have reduced the necklace 20%.
