Ratchet Strap, 7’ x 1.5" Shock Absorbing Heavy Duty Tie Downs for Cargo, 1,000 LB WLL / 3,000 LB Break Strength, 2-Pack

I've hauled my huge, heavy 2300CC Triumph Rocket III Touring in my enclosed trailer on a couple road trips totalling about 8,000 miles this year. I used four standard 1/2" rachet straps on each side plus two self-adjusting straps (total of 10 ratchet straps on the sides) plus one for the front wheel that is in a chock. I would check the straps every hundred miles or so and, in most cases, some had loosened a bit but sometimes one or two had become very loose. I thought about that and came up with the bright idea that a flexible link in the strap should solve the problem. I looked for such a ratchet strap but didn't find any and I thought I had come up with a new idea. But one more search came up with the Shock Straps so I ordered four. I love them! They are very well made. The ratchet itself is the same as virtually every ratchet I've ever seen so there's nothing special there. But I really like that the components are held together with high-strength bolts and nyloc nuts. That means you can easily replace any part easily if necessary. I also really like the fact that if, in the unlikely event that the flexible link should break, the strap backs it up. I hadn't included that feature in the strap I was designing in my mind before I found Shock Straps. I had considered buying the 2" Shock Straps but I'm sure glad I didn't and that brings me to something anyone thinking of using these for strapping down a motorcycle should consider. Even with the single flexible link in the 1 1/2" straps, to crank them down so they are stretched correctly as described in the included instructions, so much pressure is put on the motorcycle that the suspension is greatly compressed. It's compressed more than I would like. If you don't tighten them down to stretch them correctly, you lose the benefit of the system. When I tighten them down to what I think is best for the bike's suspension, the link isn't stretched as much as it should be for maximum effectiveness. From the pictures, the 2" straps have two flexible links so that would simply not work for a motorcycle. They would probably completely collapse the supension to the bottom out point which is not good and would probabl quickly destroy the shocks. I have actually thought of shaving off a bit of material from the flexible link to reduce the pressure on the suspension when they are stretched properly but that's something I hesitate to do. Anyway, if you are strapping down an motorcycle, DON'T get the 2" straps. They will exert way too much pressure on the bike, totally bottoming out the suspension and probably damaging the seals in the forks and rear shocks. And also keep in mind that the more Shock Straps you use, the worse the problem will be. For example, if I was to add more Shock Straps, when they were cranked down to get the correct stretch of the links, the the suspension would be collapsed even more and, to make things even worse, the first Shock Straps would become loose and they would have to be tightened down even more compounding the problem. So I would stay with four Shock Straps. Addition straps should be standard ratchet straps. Anyway, that's my two-cent's worth. Use your own judgment but be very careful about how much you collapse the bike's suspension. My Rocket III Touring is bigger than HDs (it makes HDs look small when parked near them) so the issue I describe would be even a bigger consideration with smaller, lighter machines so keep that in mind. If you own one of those little HDs be careful. They're cute but delicate! I like to keep an HD in my saddlebag as a spare. (Just kidding.) I would not use these with a smaller, lighter machine although I think Shock Strap makes a 1" strap that might be OK but I don't think it is backed up by the strap in case the flexible link breaks but I could be wrong. If you were to crank down the 1 1/2" Shock Straps to get the correct amount of stretch in the link, a lighter bike's suspension would definitely be completely bottomed out, possibly destroying the fork and shock seals. Don't even think of using the 2" straps with any motorcycle. Those would be for strapping down cars or heavy equipment that has no suspension. Other than that consideration, these are very nice and very well-made.

The straps are great. I watched several YouTubes before purchasing them. I secure my sxs in my toy hauler.

They work exactly as advertised. No more loose tie downs on washboard roads. The load stays secure and in place. Perfect for our many uses.

So this is a something I have had about a year now. I can say they are absolutely awesome for my Renegade 1000 XXC. The straps are like to tighten once and forget it till you get there! No more stop and check the straps. I bought 2 and I hook them to the back of the wheeler and Stationary Ratchet Straps in the front. on all corners would be nice yet 2 work great for me. Even when I use them to strap down the tiers to the trailer deck. The only problem I have had with one of the straps is the ratchet 2nd release seems to get stuck some times, Have to take some pressure off it and it works fine. I would buy them again or a similar type.

I carry my ATV in an enclosed trailer. Every time I opened the ramp, the straps were loose, even to times undone. I tried Shockstrap. Wonderful. The straps won't loosen. Very happy about this product.
