OXBOW PET PRODUCTS 448204 90-Count Daily C Tablets for Pets

EDITED REVIEW: (2 stars)Bottom Line: After three years of taking Oxbow, one of my guinea pigs has refused it completely. I switched to a different brand.A couple of months ago, one of my two guinea pigs suddenly stopped accepting Oxbow brand Vitamin C tablets which she'd been accepting without incident for almost 3 years. When I first started supplementing with Oxbow, I noticed some Amazon reviewers complained that their guinea pigs suddenly refused to accept the Oxbow tablets when a new bottle of that product was opened. These reviewers claimed it was because Oxbow had changed the formula of the product and that their pigs didn't like the new formula. Since my pigs had never had the old formula and since my exotic vet at Tufts Veterinary School specifically recommended Oxbow brand Vitamin C due to it having a less sugary set of ingredients than other options, I went ahead and went through the somewhat timely process of introducing each pig to the delicious joys and good health of daily vitamin C. Now, about 3 years later, one of my GPs suddenly stopped accepting the Oxbow tablets. She would still come forward with interest and apparent hope, but upon sniffing what I was offering, she would decline to take it. My other GP still would accept them. This change in behavior for one of the pigs did, in fact, coincide with the start of a new bottle of Oxbow. Not quite believing there was anything truly different or wrong with the Oxbow tablets, I persisted for at least two weeks to offer the Oxbow tablets from the newly opened bottle to both pigs. The one who refused, never did again take an Oxbow tablet.After two weeks, I felt I had to do something different which BOTH GPs would readily accept. Upon researching human Vitamin C options here on Amazon, as well as a couple of widely well-respected GP care and health websites, I decided to try Rugby's Liquid Vitamin C, which is sold here at Amazon. I'm glad I did! Both pigs like it and the one who completely refused the Oxbow absolutely *loves* Rugby's. See my review of Rugby's for how I administer it and how I figured out how much to give each pig.ORIGINAL REVIEW: (5 stars) All 6 of my guinea pigs love these vitamins. Two take it from my hand. The other four will take it immediately from their bowl when I leave them on top of their pellets. None of them ate it, or even seemed interested in tasting it right away, but leaving a few on their pellets, over several days time, first one then more and more of them gave it a try, and now they all look forward to vitamin c time each morning. None of these pigs ever experienced the older formula by this company that some of the other reviewers have mentioned, so I can't say how to transition a pig used to that to this new formula. All I can say is that there are six GP thumbs up in this house with the new formula and nothing else taste-wise to compare it to other than timothy hay, plain (unfortified) timothy pellets, fresh fruits and veggies and filtered water :D

While I see there seems to be a lot of angry people about Oxbow changing their formula we are fairly new Guinea Pig owners so we never had the old ones. My advice to all of the people giving this product 1 star is to contact Oxbow, not give this product low ratings. We have two Guinea pigs and one of them took to chewing these right away. It took a while for the other one to eat them but eventually she came around. You should definitely cut them in half so you end up with 25mg tablets that are actually easier for the Guinea pigs to eat. After six months of owning Guinea pigs the one thing I have discovered is that, without question, Oxbow makes the best products on the market. You should try their different Timothy hay flavors. Our Guinea pigs popcorn like crazy when they get Oxbow hay, especially the Organic blend. When it is any other brand they are totally indifferent.

We use these for our guinea pig as extra assurance he is getting enough vit C (after losing one to rickets, we don't want that to happen again). We buy the fortified pellets but I don't want to rely on that. However, I deduct two stars because the price is outrageous for what you get, but unfortunately there really is no competition. In fact, last time I tried to order from Amazon it said there were plenty available until I went to checkout and then it said they were gone and doubled the price!We tried using the drops, and the people-version of chewables, but he won't touch them. He doesn't even like oranges (go figure...) Since I have read that they only need 25 mg vit C per day, we break these in half with our fingers and only give half a day. If he gets a lot of kale, I may skip a day. I like the Oxbow brand, just hate that these are way overpriced.

I ordered this because i read that the liquid drops can go rancid in the water! I never knew this and fed to my last GP that passed away in October. I recently got 2 GP's and bought a larger cage and decided to try these pills. Well its been only a month and i put in the cage and it seems that they barely touch it. looks like they have taken some licks and bites but not enough for me to feel like they are getting anything out of this. I will wait another month or so and update maybe its just because they are still fairly new and still getting use to things. The shipping was quick and it seems like a great product if i can get them to eat it. if anyone has any suggestions on getting them to eat it I would love to hear!

Our piggies hated the new Daily C. We too used the old GTN-50C, our piggies would run to the end of their cage and stand up for them. When Oxbow changed them I gave it a shot (since we had no other choice.) They both HATED them, spat them out and walked away. I contacted Oxbow and asked them "why" and "what" were they thinking??? Apparently Oxbow did a study and found these flavors worked better so they changed it. They did not sound like they were going to revert to the old formula at all. So after a couple of weeks with no C tablet we gave them spinach other leafy C veggies and tried it again. They now treat the new C as the old ones. They come up and are very happy to munch on them. If I gave a review too soon I would have given it a one star - zero if possible, but now they love them and I am happy to know they are getting the C they need.

Excellent product and an easy way to ensure guinea pigs get their daily vitamin C. These tablets were a very good price in comparison to other websites and delivery was quick.

Takes about a month for the pigs to accept but keep offering cause they will take eventually. I have 3 on it and they now take straight out my hand every morning

I bought this as my guinea pig was showing signs of a lack of vitamin c He takes it very easily. Actually comes up to take it and his health has improved

My Guinea has been very poorly recently and I was told he would be on permanent Vitamin C for the rest of his life. The ones I had from the vets were hated and my Guinea refused to take them, even if I crushed them in his food and it was working out very expensive. I found these when searching on the internet and I read previous reviews that their Guineas loved these to eat and they weren't wrong. It has got to the point where if my Guinea hears the rattle of the pack he squeals with delight.They work out a lot cheaper than the vets and this price was the best I could find. Very prompt delivery and I will be ordering again when I need to buy more.Can't recommend this enough and the vet has commented on the progress of my Guinea which Is so pleasing.
