Rockville RPA9 2-Channel Professional/DJ Rack Mount Power Amplifier

I purchased the Rockville RPA9 to power subwoofers for my DJ setup, and it has exceeded my expectations. The amplifier delivers clean, powerful sound with plenty of headroom for small to medium-sized events. I especially like the flexibility of having RCA, XLR, and 1/4" inputs, plus Speakon and binding post outputs, making it easy to integrate with different equipment. The built-in protection circuits and cooling fans have kept the amp running reliably during long sessions without overheating. For the price, the build quality is impressive, and it performs much better than I expected from a budget-friendly amplifier. If you're looking for an affordable amplifier to drive passive speakers for DJ gigs, karaoke, or live sound, the RPA9 is a solid choice. Just remember to match it with the correct speaker impedance and don't rely solely on the advertised "peak" wattage—look at the RMS ratings when planning your system.

Almost did 4 start, because it's not perfect, but thr only bitch i have is one fan is a little weak, but it hasn't overheated to the point of blowing up yet. Have had 2 of these for 2-3 years, I never write good reviews until I am satisfie that the item is well built and durable. (too many seem to do 5 stars just because something works upon arival). at this price, I am amazed at a great power amp. Sounds good and will definatly blow up a pair of Mach2 160W speakers. however, I agree with the reviewers who say the fans are too loud. Would be fine in a Band setting with high Volume, but in the living roo at low volume, they need to be in another room, Otherwise this is one of the best deals I ever ran into!!!. great with a Behringer mixer ahead and XLR feeding these. Feeding a pair of Mach2s inthe house, and the other, a pair of Mach2s outside. Have to be careful with the amplitude so not to blow the speakers. Can hear clearly 1/4 mi away.

So coming from a self proclaimed (and friends and family too) audio snob, I can honestly say the Rockville RPA9 is a pretty decent amp. I’ve had it running in my home setup for three days and can honestly say this amp has great sound. All in all I’m pretty happy with it. I’m a collector of fine vintage speakers such as Cerwin Vega, Advent, DCM, Infinity and JBL all from the 80s and 90s. I strongly prefer Crown A/B amplifiers but wanted to give the RPA9 a try. Here’s what I think: Pros: It’s an A/B amp which I prefer to Class D. Class D just sounds so empty and flat. Which is a good thing because you can EQ the sound to your liking. But I enjoy the full bodied warm sound of AB. There is zero noise. Meaning no hiss or hun coming from the speakers when idle or under load For an AB amp it’s very light Connections are easy to get to and manipulate Operationally it’s quiet. The dual fans don’t bother me Both channels seemingly have equal power output. One does not seem to have more output than the other. My ears are trained for this. XLR balanced inputs and outputs to connect more amps if you desire. Cons: The power supply and transformer are very small. This amp will not give you outdoor concert levels. I believe when this amp has its gain knobs all the way up you are truly using all of its power. There’s no extra headroom. The paint work on mine is full of flaws. The power cord is really small. I’m talking 14 gauge with no built in filter. All in all this isn’t a horrible amp and I do recommend it if you’re looking for an inexpensive amp for your vintage speakers. At its price point and what I’m using it for, I’ll be keeping it inside the rack happily. It will power my Cerwin Vega D2s without any problems.

Delivery was 7-10 days, a bit longer than I had hoped. It arrived damaged. Likely damaged during delivery so I'm not holding the seller / manufacturer responsible. They responded promptly with a return shipping label and I packed it up and dropped it off at the UPS store. It took the same 7-10 days for the seller to receive it. They did say it would take a few days to review the damages prior to approving the replacement but I got the new tracking number the day after they received the damaged one. 7-10 days before I got the new arrived. Brutal timeline all together combined before I got my amp in good condition. I connected to my Onkyo 5.1 home theater system to drive my Cerwin Vega SL-12 3-way tower front main speakers. 90's nostalgia old school furniture speakers that rock the neighborhood. I had to use a Russound ADP-1.2 Speaker-level to Line-level Adapter to connect since my Onkyo doesn't have a pre-amp line out. Sometimes you can get a hissing sound when connecting with these type of adaptors. I'm extremely happy to report absolutely clean sound without any hissing. Note, this amp is not passive. Meaning I can't leave it off and let my Onkyo do the driving. And even if it was passive, the line level adaptor would prevent that anyways. The Onkyo alone did a good job but didn't necessarily drive these bad boys like I remembered in my youth. I got the 3000w peak / 800w RMS amp. Like most amp manufacturers I'm without doubt these numbers are over stated, and I should have known better so I hold my self accountable for that because other reviews state the same (duh). I have the gain turned all the way up on the amp. We gave it a good 2 hour long Friday night run. I can tell a slight difference with the amp and I'm positive the 12" subs are pounding slightly harder and faster. mids and highs are keeping up fine. The performance is matched and satisfactory. This is where I should have known better and just spent a little more and purchased the Rockville RPA12 5000W Peak/1400W. I've learned it is always better to have more power than less which gives you more performance at lower levels. 800w RMS still has me turned up to the limit. With the amp gain all the way up my Onkyo volume goes all the way to the mid 70's out of 80 before I saw the clipping light blink once or twice. So, to conclude, this amp would likely be great for 10"s, works fine on my 12" but is in no way adequate for 15"s. My rating is 3 1/2 stars. I didn't take any stars off due to the first one being damage but, I took half a star off due to shipping and return was a snails pace. I took one full star off for industry standard overstating power ratings. If the industry simply gave more accurate power ratings I would have bought the next size up and bingo, they would have got that star and more of my money. Am I satisfied, yes. My system is pretty bad a-$-$. Am I blown away, not completely. More power man. Hope that helps.

This thing pushes out major power

I really wanted to like this amp for my mobile DJ setup, but there is not much good I can say about it. The case, connectors and knobs seem to be of decent quality for the price point. Unfortunately, the specs are majorly inflated vs actual performance. I only discovered this after difficulty mounting in my rack due to the mounting holes not aligning well to standard spacing. (6 other devices all line up well in the same rack) I bought this amp specifically to drive a pair of Rockville 3-way 12" 8 ohm pa speakers that I normally only use as a backup to my normal main speakers. I had a more crowded gig than normal this weekend so I decided to add this amp and use my backups in addition to my primary speakers. In order to drive them marginally I had to crank the gain all the way. With pretty much no headroom left it was all this amp had to drive the speakers well below their normal output as compared to my powered mixer output which is only 400 Watt. Keep in mind I've never pushed them beyond about 70% of my mixers max. The sound quality was also not as crisp through the Rockville amp. After reading many positive reviews, I thought this unit may stand a chance, but it just doesn't measure up in the real world. At the price I knew it wouldn't keep up with my Peavy or Mackie amps which are only rated 1500w - 1/2 the Rockville's rating, but I really thought it could be suitable to drive a couple of 12" pa cabinets that preformed well with the 400 Watt mixer output. Maybe the positive reviews are from better success with 4 ohm speakers, but even if that's the case, the amps power ratings are still grossly overstated. I plan on switching to an unpowered mixer in the near future and adding additional amps to my rack. I was hopeful that this amp would be suitable for that task, but it clearly falls short. I would have to use 2 of these amps and settle for lesser sound quality to replace my current 400 Watt output.

i get a lot of second hand PA equipment from people and my home theater receivers couldn't power the equipment i was getting. one day i got an 18" corner speaker i just could not power to save my life. i knew i needed a mono amplifier with high wattage so i could test it. i decided to look into vintage amplifiers on ebay but the good ones cost upwards of 500usd. i stumbled across a cheap power amplifier by mistake and started looking into budget dj equipment. eventually i narrowed my choices down to a few companies that had high reputations. i knew rockville because i had tried their powered monitors before, so i thought i'd give them a chance on this. it was a pretty good deal. 3000w peak with bridge mode for my corner speaker. setup was easy. i just plugged in my speakers and my source and flipped the switch to bridge, and turned up the "a" channel. worked like a charm. the fans are loud but it keeps the machine cool when working in high temperature environments, which is what this is meant for. the distortion is nill as far as i can tell. sounds as good as you would expect from any good power amp. build quality is great. all metal, easy to mount chassis with feet pre-attached. much better than i expected. overall, this is a very nice budget amp i will be using for future equipment.

Im very pleased with the results of this amp. Both 15" cabinets POUND. I don't run a sub (I don't have one yet) but the amp can do 2 speakers and a sub with Xover support. or run 4 speakers without a sub. Simple to use amp.. The fans are loud.. but when you have music on.. YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THEM. so it doesn't matter. but in a studio where its supposed to be quiet... its the loudest thing in the room. hah. don't let that scare you.. its a great amp.. pay more for a quiet amp if you prefer.. but the price was decent.... Oh yeah, doesn't seem to run hot..... Amp is cool to the touch.. Fans move a ton of air.. Without my pre-amp I Set the gain at 2-3 'o' Clock.. (fairly high) but not maxed out.. Far from it and that's good... now with a pre-amp the gains are at 10-11 and it varies how i setup my pre-amp. great volumes ! either way...

Amazing amp. Drives my 18” subwoofer bass bin exquisitely or put differently it rocks the bass big time. It’s driving a 3000watt peak woofer that kicks ass with the Rockville set at mono bridged!! I love it!!! Excellent value!!! Thinking of buying another one in the new year!!

Do not let the 4 stars fool you it's not a bad product but could be with some missing and cheaply added features. Cons : -The parts are common stock power amp parts nothing special about them - There is no way to control the dual fans speed ( pots should be mandatory on the back of these devices). So it's loud so no way to use this in a studio for close to the Mixing desk. -Can not be used for home theatre use unless its hidden in sound proof closet see above. - The power rating at 8 ohms ( 175x 175 at best ) is nowhere near their rating. Inside the Unit there is not enough Caps to pull the wattage they state ( 2 caps is not going to pull 1200 watts). Pros : -It is built and assembled with good quality -Excellent packaging ( box within main box) - Front Handles!!!! 😂😂😂😂 - The back of the unit has tons of connection options this is where this unit even has an advantage over double the price ones. - Clean Sound so this unit does no colour your tone ( very good!!) - Good sized Toroid Transformer so you have some options later on to add some features to this amp. -Direct Outs.... this is a no brainier yet many expensive units do not have these outs!! Overall you may spend less building your own power amp but this unit to me is an excellent starting point due to its price and build. Issues that you may want to fix ( this is on you, you are responsible for what you do yourself) 1. Fan noise issue 2. Holes for mounting on rack are slightly off 3. Remove handles if you want a more clean rack front 4. Remove the feet of the unit so it fits in rack easier After using it for a week I am okay with it and happy with what it does. Note : The stated wattage of 1000+ watts may be less with the gear you are using.
