TenbaBackpack V2, Black/Black Camo, 14 Long

A Goldilocks bag: daypack that doubles for city-shooting. Great build quality, subtle good looks
This review pertains to the Fulton 14 Liter âall-weatherâ black + black-camo which uses slightly different materials than the 600D canvas bag colors.I have a tenba DNA-9 messenger that I like, particularly the build quality, weather resistance, and comfort. But there were times I needed to carry more - enter the Fulton 14 Liter. Itâs not too big (the 16L), itâs not too small (the 10L), itâs just right. I can easily fit a full-frame mirrorless + 4 lenses in the bottom, and the roll-top provides flexibility to carry a lot more. Iâm pretty happy with the side tripod carrier, which holds the feet in a reinforced area, and a strap holds it snug to the bag. My travel tripod which doesnât have a center-column and itâs just over 3â in diameter, fits either: all three legs through the strap and into the foot-holder, or (as I prefer to use it) two legs through the strap and into the foot-holder and the third leg folded on the outside. I prefer this because I can remove it one-handed, which is more convenient - and after cinching the side-strap over the two inserted legs, the tripod is very secure and doesnât move or jostle around at all. There is a padded handle on-top of the backpack that inspires confidence. The build quality is very good. Tenba is using their proprietary 420D Helix nylon weather resistant material which is similar (the same?) as what the used on the DNA series. Itâs very good; Iâve taken my DNA messenger all over and hiked many miles with it - the material is still rock solid. I didnât know what to expect from the 600D camouflage nylon upper, but it feels smooth to the touch and holds some structure. The camo pattern is very subtle, being comprised of black, charcoal, and grey. The only reflectivity on the bag is some horizontal stitching on the shoulder straps. Speaking of the shoulder straps, Iâd give them a 7.5 out of 10 on an absolute scale, but on this small bag implementation - Iâd go up to a 9. Itâs very comfortable to wear fully loaded, and the sternum strap (which can be repositioned) feels well executed. There are four external zippers: two for the front pocket, and two for the rear camera-access. They pull fine, but I replaced them with some of those rubberized âUâ shaped pulls that have a slightly longer lead - and the zipping action is perfectly smooth now.The front pocket implementation is âokâ. It features a deep laptop/tablet pocket in the back and two organizer pockets in the middle which are about 5â in length + width each. The remainder of the front pocket is a wide, shallow opening all the way to the bottom. Itâs a strange implementation that could have been improved. The roll-top is a nice, wide mouth and is secured by velcro on the lip. There is a cinch-strap with a D-ring used to keep things tidy, but no strap-minder. Strange - as of the five cinch straps (one above each side pocket, one on each shoulder strap) - this is the only one whoâs excess strap just flaps about. There are solutions for this - but itâs odd that Tenba didnât at least include a elastic loop here. The roll-top interior is an open space with no organization - which works for me, but if youâre packing a lot of small items, you may want to use a tech-pouch.The bottom is the photography area - itâs well padded on the exterior sides, and includes generally what youâll likely need to set things up. I had some extra organizer panels that I used which allowed me to fully use the entire space. Suffice to say that I can easily fit a full-frame mirrorless + 4 lenses + filters + odds & ends in there. There are no pockets whatsoever in the camera section, so again - you may need to use another solution for memory cards or whatnot. Overall, I wanted a method to carry a bit more than the DNA-9 5Liter messenger while keeping a lens mounted at all times - and this is a great solution for that. The camera section is completely configurable (100% of the walls and flooring accept velcro), though do note that the camera compartment is not removable as in some other Tenba backpacks. There is only padding on the straps and in the lower-back area - none to be found for the upper-back. I wore the backpack fully-loaded for a couple of hours to test, and it remained comfortable - so Iâm ok with their decision. Given all the hiking Iâve done with the DNA-9 messenger (which also does not have padding on the back), I can tell you that while I can detect faaaaaaint sights of use, the Helix material seems like itâll last many, many years with no issues. Iâm not worried about the Fulton backpackâs longevity. There is no waist-belt, and I donât see any way to connect one. Iâd have removed it even if it came with one, as for this size - the pack absolutely doesnât need it.Some notes on sizing. The Fulton series come in three sizes, and two different material choices (canvas or all-weather)Fulton 10L - 10â wide, 15â long, 6â deepFulton 14L - 11â wide, 17.5â long, 6.5â deepFulton 16L - 11â wide, 20â long, 7.5â deepFully packed, but not fully stuffing the roll-top, my Fulton 14L measures: 10.5â wide, 16.5â long, and 6 to 6.5â deep. Depending on how you pack the camera compartment, there is a spot two-thirds of the way down that will bow outwards on the left and the right - making that one spot 11â wide. If you donât completely fill the camera compartment, I can imagine that wouldnât happen. The reason I mention the bowing is because if you put a non-flexible water bottle in the mesh side pocket, youâll see that itâs not sitting perfectly vertical. Again, this appears to be a side effect of packing the camera compartment, and Iâm sure that certain camera + lens configurations wouldnât cause this. Fully packed, the bag stands upright on itâs own - even when a tripod is packed on the side. Wearing the bag with my 2# tripod on the side doesnât cause the pack to be off-balance or to dig into the shoulder on that side. Walking around for a couple of hours with the tripod attached also didnât reveal additional issues - which was rather surprising. The only test left is to get it out for a day of hiking.A quick note on the side pockets. One is mesh, and will comfortably hold a 24oz Hydroflask metal water bottom, which is just over 3â in diameter. The same water bottle fits well into the reinforced tripod pocket on the other side. However, a larger diameter water bottle will likely be problematic to fit. Additionally, I have a collapsible Vapur water bottle which is just over 5â wide, and it doesnât fit (though it can be clipped to a shoulder strap). Those wide-mouth Nalgene bottles wonât fit - youâll need something with a smaller diameter.Final notes: I really like the bag. Itâs very comfortable fully packed, holds everything I wanted with room to spare, and has great build quality. I wish it had a fidlock closure instead of the G-ring, but thatâs something that can be added post-purchase. The bag has a total of five cinch-straps, four of which come with strap-minders - which means that the back looks clean since there arenât a bunch of straps hanging out all over. The all-weather charcoal + black-camouflage is subtle yet interesting at the same time. The bagâs dimensions donât blow out when packed, retaining itâs slim profile. This is a perfect day-pack that can also double for city-shooting. For the price, Tenba has made a great bag.

Perfect for my setup and lifestyle.
I recently returned from a trip to Europe and Scandinavia and had this bag with me at all times. It's a great size to walk around with, whether around town or on long hikes. The top sack has generous room for expansion to throw in camera accessories, snacks, rain jacket and light fleece top. (with room to spare.)My camera rig is a Sony A7C with a trio of f/2.8 Tamron Zoom lenses. Everything packs in nicely and is partitioned well. The laptop slot is a bit snug, but I can pack in either an Acer Swift 13" or an Ipad Pro 12.9 with the Magic keyboard. This backpack is well made and sturdy as well. I slipped on wet rocks and landed on my back. The backpack cushioned my fall, and my camera gear was perfectly safe. I didn't have my laptop/iPad with me, so that wasn't a concern. The front accessory sleeve is not that well padded, so you should be thoughtful about what to bring on a hike.Backpack straps are nicely cushioned and never bothered me during my excursions. The black multi-cam design gives the pack a modern and edgy look that appeals to my eyes.I have gone through many styles and brands of cases, and this is my favorite by far. I Love it! You should Get it!

Nice and light
For the size of this bag, it holds a good amount of gear. It can hold more gear than some of the larger bags Iâve tried out. I like the sleek and minimal look to it as well. The rolltop is very handy for storing extra items. The camera section holds everything nice and securely. I switched from a bag that was fully x-pac and all aqua guard zippers, so the resistance to weather is less than what Iâm used to, but still reasonably protected. Overall this bag is very convenient as it isnât too large or busy looking.Pros:- small and lightweight- solid rolltop- has a dedicated spot for a laptop and a spot for a tablet separated from the laptop so they donât directly press against each otherCons:- no weather sealed zippers for the camera compartment- no side access for the camera- not made of x-pac, but thatâs just a personal nit-picky preference

Great bag - but not for large laptops
I really wanted this Tenba pack to work because it is a well constructed, sexy looking bag. However, however my new 16 inch gigantic laptop (~W10.5, L14.5, 1 inch thick) would not fit into the laptop sleeve which is a deal breaker for me. My old 15 inch laptop fit, just barely, but it would have been annoying to have to cram it in there on a daily basis. A 16 inch, super slim macbook or something might fit in there, but not my thick Lenovo. Im returning this bag since I can't fit my laptop into it anyway but I may end up buying one of the smaller versions of this to travel with my tablet.

Must have for photographers!
I LOVE THIS BAG!!! There is no perfect camera bag, but this one is close. The fabric is durable and nice to the touch. The camera compartment is roomy and can be configured in so many ways. I like the fact that the camera portion is against your back and not on the outside of the backpack. The whole pack doesn't have to be opened to get at the camera. The side pockets hold a travel tripod without issue as well as a water bottle. The top portion is roomy and actually can be rolled down if you don't need to fill the space. Great for snacks or clothes for a couple of nights. Originally purchased for some weekend hiking trips and WOW! This will be my main travel backpack moving forward. It works great as a carry on and tucks nicely under the seat. Great job TENBA!!!

Perfect 16L bag
Material quality is very good and very spacious but chains could be a bit smoother and dust can be very difficult to clean outside of the bag

Perfect size to safely transport your gear as carry on with providers like easyJet and Ryanair. Used it to go to Iceland with easyJet recently with no problems
