Dear Zoo: The Lift-the-flap Preschool Classic

My daughter absolutely loves this book it is her favourite so I had to order one for my friend who is expecting.From around 8 months old my daughter has loved when we read this to her and now she’s 1 she helps lifts the flaps.The hardback copy is easier to keep from being damaged by small hands and the flaps in the book are sturdy.

We bought this book for my daughter when she was about 8 months old and first gaining some interest in lift the flap books. It was an instant hit with her. It’s a perfectly simple, but also interactive book for babies.Each page has a crisp white background with simple text and illustrations. It’s a good design, there isn’t too much distraction from the main components for little ones. The flaps are also very sturdy, the sturdiest I’ve come across. The story is as a simple one, but also nice and there are lots of opportunities for labelling and pointing out different animals. We also did animal sounds with our daughter.It has become less popular with her as she’s got older. She’s now almost two and rarely chooses it. As I’ve said already, it’s very simple, and therefore perhaps less interesting to older children.

A charming and fun book for young children - a real page-turner!This is a great book! My 1-year-old Granddaughter loves it!It’s short and only takes a few of minutes to read (though she often wants multiple consecutive readings!). The pages turn quickly, with each page having great illustrations and only a little text so she doesn’t get bored. She likes it that some of the text is repeated on each page, aiding memorability, and lends itself to being read with rhythm - especially important as she learns language.There is a (reasonably sturdy) flap for her to open on every page, keeping it interactive and giving her some control and an animal under every flap - you can do animal sounds if you like (though if anyone knows what giraffes and camels say, please let me know!). The pages are reasonably firm (not too thin or over-thick).The book starts immediately inside the front cover, unlike some annoying books where you have to turn several pages before finding the start. There are small pictures of the featured animals on the back cover to point to / talk about at the end. A book really designed for young children!

This book is an absolute family favourite! We buy this book again and again because it is so well loved in our home. We have gone through two copies ourselves, and I also gift it at every baby shower we attend because it is such a fun book to read with little ones.The story is engaging, playful, and perfect for reading together. My son is now five years old and still enjoys reading it, which says a lot about how much children love this book. I highly recommend it for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers!
