Nay-sayers to oil lamps: they look nice, they provide light and heat if and when the power goes out (I live in a rural setting, where this is a normality, not an exception) and- when used with even a modicum of common sense- they're perfectly safe. In order to use one, you need a wick. I'm so pleased that in modern society there's still available a good-quality, cheap producer of oil lamp wicks! This can be trimmed with a garden-variety kitchen shears, and has proven absolutely effective with every one of the five (5) oil lamps I have in a ready-to-use state at my home. If you need a wick, buy this instead of a single-lamp length... it's just a few dollars more expensive, can sit in a dry place for years and not deteriorate, and will be handy if you feel you want/need to add another lamp you may find. While I purchased the 3/4" variety and COULD have worried about a slightly wider one for the larger lamps, the width and thickness work just fine in all of them.

I found my old oil lamp in my closet, but did not have any wicks. This wick is great, easy to put in the lamp and works well.
