Review: Great Detail - But Small - This is a good model, although somewhat smaller than I expected. I know - I know - read the scale specs. It was quite easy to assemble despite the numerous small pieces. Since it comes in a battleship grey color already, there was very little painting actually necessary. The detail is quite good and I prefer the waterline design so you don't have to balance it on a precarious stand to display it.

**Q: Is it full hull?**
A: The Tamiya Gneisenau 1/700 scale model is part of their "Waterline Series" and does NOT include the full hull of the ship.  The base of the model is the waterline of the ship, everything below the line of water on a vessel is not included.  Therefore, it does not need a stand to balance the model and can be displayed with a flat base.

**Q: Does this Kit have the triple 15" guns from the almost used refit, the historical twin 12"guns, or both?**
A: This kit has aimed to replicate the battleship Gneisenau. On the box it says Gneisenau was armed with the guns including:  nine 28cm, twelve 15cm, fourteen 105mm and sixteen 37mm. The kit has included them. To covert them in inches it appears a little different from your question. I hope this info does help you to find the answers you are looking for.

**Q: Does it float?**
A: This is a waterline model kit for display and does not include the bottom of the hull, so it will not float without modifications.

**Q: would this be a good model for a 9 year old boy that has never built a model before ? if not what would be a good choice for him ?**
A: I would not say that. The instructions do not have English and are only illustrations with Japanese instructions.

I would look at Revell/Monogram ship kit that you will have English. Something like the PT -109 will have bigger parts for a 9 year old to learn better to build a kit.

Modèle un peu ancien , et qui gagnerait à une cure de rajeunissement avec de la photodécoupe . Tamiya reste une marque excellente à la qualité irréprochable .
