Bondo Fiberglass Resin, 00404, 0.9 Gallon Can

The reason I chose this product over many others is that it came to my door tax-free and for a fair price. I ended up buying 5 or 6 gallons of it, and used it all to great effect. Not a lot to say otherwise. If you put the hardener into the resin and stir it, the mix gets hot, and eventually it gets hard. That's what it's supposed to do. I used it with 2g mat to repair a few substantial deck issues on my sailboat and it worked great. If you've never worked with polyester resin before, read up first and ALWAYS use appropriate protective gear. Otherwise consider using epoxy. Epoxy works much like polyester resin for most fiberglass applications, and has some superior characteristics. For example, epoxy is less toxic, more resistant to saltwater corrosion and osmotic phenomena, less flammable, not likely to overheat itself during curing, and won't dissolve a wide variety of plastics on contact like polyester resin does. That said, epoxy is more expensive.

No one locally sold resin by the gallon and I'm sure it would have been very expensive. I applied it to the inside of a rusted out grain bin over some fiberglass cloth. I'm hoping it will work, time will tell.

This 404 resin worked well along with 3M's 499 fiberglass cloth to make some auto body repairs. There were two tubes of hardener included under the cans cap and the instructions for mixing were simple enough. The resin began to harden firmly and dry to a light brownish color in about 10 to 12 minutes after mixing with an outdoor temp of around 60-Degrees F. I used about 1-1/2 quarts of resin for the first coat of each 4 X 4 sheet of fiberglass cloth to get thorough saturation and a good bond to the base material. The second coat of resin used quite a bit less and made for a repair with a decent final thickness and strength. This product worked well for me, so I'm happy with the overall results and would buy again.

Follow the directions but still adjust as needed.

Bondo fibreglass two part polyester resin is the essential ingredient for any composite construction work. Be advised that cure time is a function of both temperature and humidity once functional cleanliness is met.

I used this to glass the entire roof of my pop up camper with some 1oz chopped strand mat, and once I got the technique down it worked well. I used about 2.5 gallons for about 90sqft. I could get away with mixing a half gallon of resin at a time (chill it first seemed to give me longer work times) - I prewet the area first by pouring it on the roof and rolling it with a 6" FOAM roller (foam worked the best for me), then laid the mat down and poured resin on top. Then I rolled it on with the same foam roller.

Very good product if used correctly. I DID find that the ratio of hardener to resin was a bit off. It dictates to use 5 drops per 5 oz, I’d definitely go 4 drops hardener to 6oz resin next time (applied at 17 degrees Celsius)

Same product you can buy at any automotive store but I purchased it for a better price then I can get locally. Not much to say, mix it and it hardens as it should.
