I'm a real human and a cat mom.....APPROVED!!!
I am a human (not some stupid chat bot), a cat mom, and I am not compensated in any way. I'm also not someone that always posts reviews which is why I feel like this one is significant. I have to say that this is the fourth Hot Pursuit I have purchased in 10 years because my cats tend to wear it out. It is a very engaging and inexpensive toy that helps your cats have an enriched environment. Cats need stuff to do, otherwise they become distructive and present with play aggression...... this is a tool to help keep them busy in moments you cannot participate in active play. Is it the quietest toy, as other people have complained? No, but I guarantee it's less noisy than your cat destroying your sofa. And for less than $15, something that keeps your cat happy is worth every penny. You cannot expect to own a cat and it be seen and not heard. If that's how you feel, you should have a fish. This particular purchase, I received one that was faulty and I contacted the company about product support. I received a call within 16 hours to help me troubleshoot the issue. Unfortunately, I was unable to fix it so a replacement was sent. The fact that a real human being called me from Washington State to help troubleshoot this item was incredible customer service, especially for product that is this affordable. My cats have always enjoyed this toy and because we tend to be unexpected fosters for the cat distribution system, this toy ends up getting a lot of play. It is always one of the most popular! Hats off to this company and the Hot Pursuit for making my cats happy! When you purchase this item, have realistic expectations. It takes batteries but you get a lot of use of this before having to replace them. I'm reading a lot of reviews for people that act like they spent $100 on something. This is an inexpensive toy to help keep your cat occupied when you cannot actively play with your fur baby. This is not a substitute for your participation in their active play. Active participation is best by their Guardian and this is what you use when you need to wash dishes. Kudos to Smarty Cat! Outstanding toy! Worth it.

Cat is Obsessed
My cat is obsessed with this toy. She lays on it even when it is turned off. I’m a little concerned about the durability since the cloth gets wrapped up on the arm as it moves and it clicks when my cat holds onto the arm… but even if it breaks, it was worth every penny to make my cat happy.

Cheap Entertaining Toy for Certain Cats
My cat is difficult to please. She only wants to play with things if she can't see them. If she can see my toes she won't attack, but if I put my toes under a blanket, she's paws out, claws out. All the one star reviews of this toy actually helped me out. Complaints of how you can't see the little mouse and how it hides underneath the little blanket let me know that this was the absolute perfect toy for my cat. I'm not sure what the average price of this thing is but I paid a little over $11 bucks. For two coffees and a muffin, I'm not expecting a lot. I want to entertain my cat and if I get three or four months out of it, I'm good. I don't need to pass it down to my grandchildren in a cedar chest. The box says satisfaction guaranteed. I don't know how long that's for but since it's open-ended I'm going to say forever. I'm very reasonable. If it breaks before my cat gets $12 worth of happiness from it I'm going to ask for a replacement. About the toy. Noise was expected. I'm not surprised that at this price point, Smart Kitty has not perfected the silent motorized cat toy. It's not bad. I meditated through it and watched TV through it and it didn't bother me a bit. After a while I didn't hear it because it shut itself off which is a handy feature. I did hear my cat complaining so I got up and turned it back after checking to see if the motor was warm. It was cool as a cucumber. Here's where I wished for a remote control. My cat weighs about 11 lb and she hasn't turned it over yet. My cat absolutely loves this thing. She doesn't play with it like her other toys. She sits and looks at it. She watches it and tracks it and she tries to figure it out. And then after a while she starts to move in on it and touch it lightly with her paws. It's really a slow build-up to very vigorous play. At first I thought she didn't like it because she didn't just go right after it, but it was really more like stalking and waiting and hunting. She took her time enjoying this toy and when it shut off, it interrupted her playtime but when I turned it back on she picked right up where she left off. When it shut off the last time, she curled up on the little blanket part and went to sleep. I do want to point out that product is described as a CONCEALED toy. One would assume that means that most of the time the mouse is supposed to stay hidden. That's why the wand is segmented instead of straight out. It hides and only occasionally flings itself out. If your cat wants an OBVIOUS toy then don't buy this concealed toy. Get the one with the wand that doesn't bend. Teaching her to turn it on herself is the next task on my list. I think this toy could be improved by making it rechargeable and adding a remote control.

Great Idea, Bad Execution
One of the reasons most of us purchase electric toys is to have entertainment for our cats without having to be 100% involved (while still monitoring, of course). This idea was great for this toy, but the execution was poor - because the human has to straighten out the toy every minute (or more often) for it to work properly. Some reviewers don't understand how this is supposed to work... so let's clear that up first. This furry/feather/ribbony end isn't supposed to peak out from the fabric like other similar toys. Instead, it helps cats with their hunting instinct. It is jointed to stay under the fabric. The hoop within the fabric hem then keeps the circle somewhat taut to make it arch in a few places, so the cat can see the movement above the fabric and gets a peek every so often of a mouse-like shape when viewing it from the side. This concept was right on the mark. I love this concept about the toy... if it only worked with the materials used. Here is where it goes wrong: 1) Fabric is too light. 2) Wire/filament hoop within hem is not attached properly to form a full circle or becomes detached with very little play. The shaping provided by the hoop/wire/filament is essential to keeping the mat flat to the floor but raised at a few places for the cat to "peek" at the mouse. When the frame becomes detached, the "mouse wand" continues to become caught on the place where the circle hoop is not connected - making the fabric twist and twist so that the point is lost and the motor unit is often turned upside down due to the tangle or the cat trying to play with it. I have now had two of these toys (initial order and the replacement order because I thought the first was broken as a fluke). You will see in my third picture where there is about a 1-inch gap where the filament has become detached so that there is no longer a full circle. Even a gap this small causes the problem. I have tried and tried to rethread the "wire" to reconnect it, but the hem is so full of thread or the "wire" is at a seam that it will not reconnect and eventually rips through the fabric if you keep trying. So.... I ordered a replacement. The second arrived with the hoop already disconnected upon arrival. The first and second picture within my review are within one minute of opening the new box. I'm returning both units for a refund. (If I were not already too busy, I would be seriously tempted to just keep one of the motor /machines and make a "fabric and hoop cover" of my own.... because the manufacturers did get so much right on this.) If the too-light fabric and frame/hoop for the mat were not issues, my cats would love this toy. They DO love it for the seconds that it works properly before I have to reset it and reset it. The "mouse," the random motion, the lights, being able to peek at the animal... all of these are often missing from other similar toys, so again, these parts were wonderful. But, I do not want to reset this toy every 20-60 seconds to make it work properly. I would recommend not buying this - as the manufacturers need to resolve the design issues.

Older models seemed more versitile.
I had an older model of this a long time ago [not sure from the same company though] and thought I'd get another one since it broke after a few play sessions but my cat LOVED it. Unfortunately, while I think this one is an improvement in many ways, it also is worse in others. The fabric top is too long now and bunches up easily, making the toy get stuck and unable to work without being reset. It also makes it so the feather top does not poke out and for some cats that can be less enticing for them [though for others like my roommate's cat, it was more enticing so results may vary]. This isn't really a negative, but it's something to keep in mind: It stops moving for a while to, what I think, check to see if the cat is still there? I would rather it just keep going like the older model since I'm there and can turn it off when the cat is done since the stops are often and so long one of the cats will just wait to grab it and break off the feather tip then. So I end up having to reset it every time it does this. The feather tip being easy to remove is honestly a good thing, though. The older model had his plastic tube thing and when my cat got a good grip on it, it broke in half compared to this one that just comes undone and you can reattach it when they drop it. This model is also not very strong and one gentle grab will cause it to stay in place and make this awful noise compared to my last one that had enough strength to pull away and stop if not [or at least it didn't make noticeable noise]. It also tops over easily since my roommate's cat likes to jump over/on it to grab the feather tip so I feel like I'm resetting this thing more than he is playing with it. Overall, I wouldn't say it's a bad toy. Despite not being as good as the previous model I had, the cats loved it all the same and if you're fine resetting it often while they play I'm sure they'll have a blast with it.

10000/10 Purchase 🔥
My cats are seriously in LOVE with this toy. Let’s be real, we all love playing with our cats but it can get tiring. The way this toy moves and makes sounds keeps my cats busy and happy.

Started out 5 star, reduced to 2 star. Faulty motor.
*Update 9/30/18 After almost 2 months of regular use, the motor just stopped. It didnt grind down gradually or worl intermittently. It was working great, then it stopped. I tried fresh batteries, but nothing changed. The lights still work. What happened? This gadget is a great idea. I know my cat loved it, and apparently many others love ve it, too. Mine is sitting next to it right now trying to coax it back to life. I'm so sad and disappointed. Note to manufacturers of cat toys. You may think pet owners will spend any amont of money on their animals. Maybe some will, but many of us are cost cnscious. This is the third battery operated cat toy that started off great then bonked out after a short time. I'm not one who wants to throw my money away like this. When I buy something, I do my research, and then I want the thing to last a good long while. 1 or 2 months is not long enough. I'll be writing the seller after posting this and hope to receive a response. If there's something I can do to help fix the motor, I want to know. A better motor would make this toy fairly unbeatable in the cat toy market, I would think. August 2018 I read many of the reviews from the time this toy was first marketed on Amazon until present time. It appears the manufacturer has improved upon its original design, and I couldn't be more pleased. I have a Bengal mix (I mention the Bengal part because of the high maintenance ((but adorable)) needs of these cats. Whew. It's like having a toddler all over again.) Anyway, my cat loves to play ferociously and, like most cats, is incredibly inquisitive. I honestly figured she would play with this toy for an hour or two, then ignore it now that she's beyond her kitten stage. (She just had her 1st birthday.) Wrong! This is a favorite toy. Even when she tires of interacting with it, she will sit near it to simply watch it. When it turns off automatically, as it's made to do, she comes to me to ask me to turn it back on. She's a pretty smart cat and has learned to do many things by observing humans. I wondered how long it would take her to learn to turn the toy on herself. It took her only 3 days! She doesn't seem to remember either how to do it, or she's just playing me, but apparently, if there's a will, there's a way. The lights that blink all around the plastic base every few seconds are great fun. She loves that, too, as we play with her a lot with a combo LED/laser pointer. Also, older reviews commented that this toy runs through batteries like crazy. Not so, at least in my experience. This toy has been in continual use for a good week now using the same 3 AA batteries I installed when it first arrived. VERY happy about that.

My fat boy is losing weight!
Both cats love it. I’m not sure it will last very long, it doesn’t look very sturdy. My boy doesn’t usually like toys but he won’t leave this one alone. My girl chases him off if she thinks he’s getting too close. Fun to watch them interact and chase each other and the toy around.

Excellent! My indoor cat was captivated from the outset.
L0VED!!! - that it engaged my indoor cat immediately, and that it has two speeds Cons - the screw on piece comes off easily when he plays with it; I plan to superglue it on Suggestion- to slightly shorten the skirt so that the tail of the fake mouse/feathers shows as it circulates DEFINITELY worth getting for your indoor cat
