Would I be able to mount this to a 4X4 or a 6X6 post?

I am not sure which model the responders are answering to.. With the "Single arm" model the mounting plate fits perfectly on a 4x4 post. I would say it's about 3.5" wide. and has holes for 3 screws.

Would this hose reel be difficult for a woman to turn when all or most of the hose is on it?

No. It turns easily when winding the hose back on. Rotating the direction of the wheel is a little tricky, but easy when you figure out how the stop works. Nothing about this device requires great strength.

can the handle go on either side?

I just called Liberty Garden products and they say NO you CANNOT reverse the handle on the rotating wheels. You also CANNOT reverse the direction of the spool-spigot (they call it the elbow). Their limited design-think said, wow!- let's make it rotate 360 so you can use it all ways! NOT! This is a wall mount, so guess what? Only 180 degress are usable!! I just bought one anyway (model 714) and also a U-joint with hose-fittings to "fix" their problem.

I would like to replace a broken hose reel and would like to use the same holes. How far apart are the mounting holes (height and width)?

Holes are 10" apart vertically, centered on the plate which is 5" wide.
