Historical Accounts
Taken from interviews in the 1930s of former slaves, it is a first hand account of the behavior of Federal troops at the end of the Civil War. No interpretation, just their words.

First Hand accounts of Sherman's sense of "justice."
It's literally just a collection of stories about the destruction of local food stores, looting of homes and farms by soldiers, burning crops and killing livestock. Some uplifting stories about the Yanks mixed with some "forgotten" abuses by the Yankees on their way home AFTER the war was over. The broken language of the freed is somewhat difficult to understand but it's mostly due to the slang words of the day. Overall I'd say this book adds some forgotten context to the war but if you're not a History or Civil War buff it would likely bore you.
