Looks beautiful and works beautifully!
I was a little leery of purchasing these because of reviews that say they’re too fragile or that they are poorly designed and don’t work well. I’m so glad I took the chance. First of all, they’re absolutely not too fragile. They’re glass, and they’re as fragile as one would expect glass to be. Based on the reviews, I was worried that I’d receive the glass equivalent of a soap bubble. They’re not. Treat them like glass globes, and you’ll be fine. Second, the design is absolutely fine. I read many reviews that say that the tapered point at the end of the stem is too small, making it difficult to fill and unable to empty. This is also not the case. To fill, turn on your faucet until you get a thin, steady stream, and hold the opening still below it. It takes me about seven seconds to fill one bird. I’m not sure how others are attempting to fill them. The narrow opening is actually a plus when using it. Water does not come out unless you draw it out by soaking it into something else. I came across a tip on another listing from another seller that says that you should wrap a small piece of cotton cloth around the tip of the stem and secure it with a rubber band before inserting the stem into your planter to keep the soil from entering the stem. What I found is that the fabric does not just keep soil from entering the stem, but also provides capillary action that helps to slowly draw the water out of the straw and soak into the soil. I suppose sticking a piece of cotton twine in the tip of it to act as a wick would achieve the same goal. They look so beautiful glistening in the sunlight with a slow stream of miniscule air bubbles rising to the top as it displaces the water in the bulb at exactly the rate that my plants need—they actually empty faster or slower dependent on the amount of moisture already in the soil. I, like many others, worried that one of them wasn’t “working” at first, but I also knew that plant had been watered earlier that day, didn’t have a drainage hole, and physics should work the same regardless, so I gave it a day, and by then it was clearly working, as there was about a half inch of air at the top of the bulb. I do plan on buying more and increasing my plant collection!

Really cute but needs better packaging
I ordered these as a gift and was sorely disappointed in the packaging. The product itself is great, these are small so they are perfect for houseplants. They seem to hold up well and are really cute.My issue was with the packaging. Product arrived sandwiched between two pieces of formed styrofoam that was taped together with packing tape. The styrofoam also was missing a huge corner, fortunately the product did not break in shipment. It had been tossed in a shipping box with other items, but it should be noted that this did not arrive in a box of its own. Also, the styrofoam didn't break in transit, it was packed that way because there was no styrofoam pieces in the shipping box. I had to find an alternate solution for repackaging these birds so that they could be gifted. If these are for personal use, they are great. If you are looking to give as a gift, look elsewhere.

Double Check Your Birds for Proper Water Release
Really Cute but Be Very Careful with these self watering birds. One almost killed my money plant that I have had for years! It has to be watered every day. Needless to say, the cute little bird was not releasing any water and my plant started dying. I had recently replanted it so I thought it might be going through root shock but then I noticed the water level in the bird was not going down. This plant will die if it's not watered so I quickly watered by hand and cleaned out the end of the bird. I adjusted the bird until I could see water bubbles flowing up from the bottom. I have had other self watering balls and I have never had this problem. I think they need to redesign the end that goes into the dirt so that the water will continue to flow. It kind of tapers and becomes a lot smaller. If dirt gets in the glass tube which is almost inevitable, it doesn't release water. My others don't taper at the end. They remain the same size. The birds are a lot cuter than my other self water devices but just be careful so that you don't lose a plant from non-watering.

Plant watering birds.
Pair of bird shaped watering for potted plants. Work well for smaller plants. Requires filling often for larger plants. Very fragile, requires great care.

Great but not for all plants
Visually, they're extremely cute and large enough to hold quite a lot of water. The first time you put these in your pots the water drains really quickly, but after that, depending on the plant, it lasts about 1.5-2 weeks. They also take a while to fill up with water from a faucet. I thought these would be a great solution for my indoor plants, but I ended up getting a nasty case of fungus gnats (except in my plant that LOVES water). They did their job a little too well, and my plants did not need that much water. I ended up taking them out and only using them when I went on vacation (they worked out nicely for that). Therefore, they're a great product, but I would not recommend these for constant use in indoor plants that don't suck up water quickly.

It's cute, but breaks really easily
These little birdies are adorable. This is my first time using something like this ony plants and unfortunately I don't have much to compare them too. For my thirsty tomato plant the water of one of this birdies only lasted about 2-3 days. I'm still getting the hang of it but I'm guessing it won't keep my plants healthy for more than one week. I should add that they are really fragile and one of my birdies came with a tiny crack in the tail which was causing the water to drain too fast, but I fixed it with a dot of hot glue and you can't even tell and now it's holding the water better.

Very cute, but be prepared to box yourself if gifting
I use plain glass bulbs for my indoor plants and they have saved my plants from my own forgetfulness many times, so I want to surprise my brother and his girlfriend while house sitting their plants for them when they are out of town. These are very cute and had no imperfections mentioned by other reviewers! My only complaint is that they came without any packaging (just enclosed in styrofoam in an envelope). This would be preferable if they were for myself (less waste!) but when ordering as a gift, it is a little inconvenient. Just a heads up to gifters to make sure you have a box on hand :)
