If you like to feel angry, buy this pen.
The idea behind this keychain pen is great. But the execution of its design is majorly flawed. It wouldn't write when I first pulled it out of the box. So, I swapped refills. Still wouldn't write, so I violently shook the pen and did dry scribbles all over a blank page. When I inserted the third refill, I finally got it working (sorta). Fast forward to work the next day. I was without a pen, so I pulled this thing off my keychain. It wouldn't write. Not sure why I decided to keep a piece of garbage pen, but it's well over my return window so I'm stuck with a pen.Every time I pull it out in hopes of jotting something down real quick (which is why I bought the friggin thing), it doesnt work. This pen fills me with rage.

Would be nicer if I could actually write with the pen...
The pen's design suits its purpose, which is occasional short usage. I see that some owners complain that the pen slips out of its holder too easily and is therefore subject to being lost. At least initially mine fits tightly into the holder. The pen is quite thin, but of course it has to be if it's going to hang on a key chain. My biggest issue with the pen is the refills. First, I can find none anywhere that have any hope of fitting within this pen. Next - the 4 that came with the pen were useless. Not one of them would write! So initially I had a nifty little pen case hanging on my key chain with nary a hope of writing even a short shopping list or salty limerick. Ultimately I took a ballpoint refill out of another pen, cut it to size, removed the ballpoint head from one of the included refills and inserted it into the self-fashioned refill. Thus far it seems to be working. So moving forward my expectation is that I will purchase inexpensive ballpoint pens (such as from local discount store), trim the insert to fit this barrel, then remove & insert the existing ballpoint head into the newly trimmed refill. It's a bit messy, but otherwise I have a pen that really isn't a pen...

Fine EDC Pen!
I introduced my husband to the idea of Everyday Carry (EDC), and of course, he gets himself an enviable EDC pen to show off to me. My wonderful hubby then got me one. It was just what I was looking for. For my desires, I wanted an EDC that wasn't too bulky, meaning I could eliminate a full-sized pen from my purse or pocket. I didn't need a pen to write essays with, so this would do nicely. I love that this pen is small, lightweight, and is easily accessible for times one needs an emergency pen on the go. I've used it for mostly signing my signature during various times a clerk at some store or a food server at a restaurant I'm visiting lost their pen.I've had this pen for about over two years now, and it is still a nice enough pen for my uses. It hasn't rusted, the pen still securely attaches to the ring, and I have yet to use the refills. The only minor thing I notice is that when the pen is first used after a while of nonuse one has to scribble a bit to get it going. Usually, it's just a small circle or mark is all that is needed to jump-start it. I think that is normal for a pen that is used so infrequently.P.S. For those of you who like my Swiss Army Knife, this is the link I used to buy it. It's a standard SAK, with the exception of it's lovely print.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PEL05S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Tiny and functional
I've owned this for maybe six months now. It's an excellent keychain pen, for these reasons. First, it's tiny. Second, it stays put (on a keychain in my pocket). Third, it works. It's perfectly fine for writing a check, jotting some notes, working a crossword puzzle, and similar.I am a great fan of Fisher space pens and own several, including the Maxpedition (same as the Trekker). The Maxpedition is a good pen, but it's just too big. To give you a sense of scale, the attached photo shows the classic space pen -- about the same size as the Maxpedition - versus the True Utility pen.Bottom line: You don't even notice it on your keychain. And it works when you need it.This one, by contrast, is just a well-thought-out, well-executed, really tiny keychain pen.

Nice idea, but wasted money
Nice idea, but wasted money. The pen is a great idea, came in a nice waterproof case that has some value on its own, and came with additional ink cartridges. Nice presentation. For a compulsive note taker, this is a terrific thought. I noticed that the pen itself attached and detached very easily from the cap that holds it onto the key ring, but it seemed solid enough. After two days the pen apparently fell out on its own. Not in my pocket, not in the car, but in some random place, likely as I had my keys out and ready to use. Gone.It just doesn't seem likely that it would have stayed in place for very long, but in my case it disappeared before I even had a chance to use it. At least I'm left with a nice waterproof case that itself probably worth most of what I paid for the pen...

Lasts a long time with care
This is my second True Utility telepen. I had the first one for many years, all through college. It comes with 1 enclosed ink cartridge and 3 replacements. An ink cartridge lasts a surprisingly long time, my original pen lasted years on the same cartridge. There are two small design flaws with this pen, hence the 4 star rating. Luckily, these flaws can be addressed. The first flaw is the ink cartridge sometimes bends inside the pen body when you lean on the pen, making the pen nib move up, sometimes moving inside the pen. To fix this, unscrew the pen near the nib and remove the ink cartridge. Put a very small wrap of sellotape at the opposite end of the ink cartridge, the non-nib end. This will lengthen the ink cartridge slightly, and stop it from moving inside the pen. Make the wrap just big enough for that, and make sure that the wrap of tape is not so thick as to make it difficult to fit the ink cartridge back into the body of the pen. .The second fault is where the unscrewable part at the pen nib used to access the inside of the pen twists, loosens and comes undone by itself whilst on your keyring. This can be frustrating, as the small part can become lodged in the pen cap, and you can lose most of the pen as it will fall off your keyring. It happens frequently enough to be a nuisance. To fix this, put a small amount of "Loctite" or similar threadlocking glue on the threads of the unscrewable part. Don't worry, the cartridge will not need to be replaced for years, and you can still open the ink cartridge area with a lighter and a pliers if need be. Beyond that, the pen will last for years and is very handy to have. Many people admire it and ask about it. There is a newer True Utility pen, but it seems to have problems with bad ink cartridges. I'd recommend buying this original TU246 telepen instead of the newer model.

The key to a future disappointment
Really liked it at first... but that was until the 'pen head' that held the internal 'refill' stayed inside the pens top.I've used it... a total of three times. I haven't been particularly heavy handed with it either.( I read another review on here and this happened to them too. So it's definitely an intermittent or sporadic problem )For me now, this pen is completely useless as there's no way to fix it.And as the price point indicates, it's a poorly mass-produced, badly designed item. That may very well decide to break on you too... and you'll only find this out when you really need it.

Great idea, but failed me on my
Bought as perfect solution to always having a pen on me; I need one to hand at all times during my working day.Literally the first time I go to use it at work the nib end falls off and down the side of a car seat... Thus leaving me without a pen, and with a useless pen-handle.Very disappointing as I thought this was the answer to my requirements!

Dont waste you money
Lost this after about a week, was attached to my keys and one day went to use it and gone. i had had a couple of instance where pulling it out my pocket it would no longer attached to keys without it even been extended. and when upside down for elongated period of time is a nightmare to get ink to come out.The pen and the lid isn't strong enough to be kept on key in a pocket but is stored in a bag might be worthwhile but not in my use case scenario
