I was looking for a small drill press that I could clamp to a steel beam. A magnetic drill was the obvious solutions, but I didn't have $800 to spend for this small remodeling project. So I reviewed all of the small drill presses on Amazon -- many of which appear to be identical. Unlike the others, however, buyers noted that the base was cast iron (not aluminum) and was well made. So I ordered one.When the product arrived I was pleased to see that it matched the reviews. The base is cast iron, the screw attachments are solid, the central tube is steel and it is well made. My Milwaukee drill fit the 'collar' just fine with the included plastic shim. It is fairly light, and I easily clamped it to the steel beam and quickly drilled the holes.In short, it worked perfectly and solved the problem -- for a very reasonable price. This would also work well as a small bench-top drill press.Mark

I got this to drill the aluminum screen-eze I also got from Amazon- better than tryong to do on my big press in the back of the garage! Also I tried the $25 one, and sent it right back- very poor. This one has some weight and is very well made for the money. However, I don't know who would drill sideways, unless you bolt the thing down. Anyway- I am much happier with this one. Holds my Hitachi drill with 43mm nose, using the thin adapter.I used the press to drill about 100LF of aluminum screen eze, and it performed flawlessly. I now see another application for a nibbler I bought to use in my drill- could be set up upside-down to do that. I really like this press, and it's better than my old Makita one!!

I can hardly find enough good words to describe this drill accessory. It is well designed and sturdily built; the base is solid cast iron and has multiple clamping opportunities; the corners are depressed for easy mounting onto a table or large work surface (mandatory); there are multiple adjustments for drill depth, angle, etc.The pictures in the description really say most of it, but I hope you will find my photos helpful as well. I have shown a comparison of two drills: the orange one fits perfectly (especially with one of the useful fine abrasive mounting strips included with this kit), and the green one LOOKS as though it might fit (the collar is ~43 mm, but the chuck head is too large on this refurbished drill), but it doesn't. Also, I have shown how my corded (ancient) rotary tool fits in the mount. I wound several layers of electrical tape around the tool where it mounts to the stand - none of the included adapters worked with this model - and I don't think there is really enough mounting surface on the tool to make it a solid immovable fit under much stress; with a shim or brace and a small set-up square, though, it might work OK. Having looked at a number of rotary tools, I think it might take quite a handy person to set this up as a rotary press; otoh, the stand is useful enough maybe to make it worthwhile.I have shown a couple of other accessories I purchased to make the stand more useful to me. One is a small drill press fence with a stop (a Craftsman drill press accessory); it is a nice size for this stand, fits well, is very adjustable, and is easily secured with T-bolts and wing-nuts. (I bought the wing-nuts and shorter bolts to make it fit.) Also shown are the blue PowerTech mini Clamps which are a great accessory for this stand. The T-bolts shown are 5/16-18; I purchased the shorter ones separately.The largest hole I've drilled with this set-up is a 1" hole with a Forstner bit - no hitch or problem. The drill I'm using weighs 4+ lbs, and I wouldn't want it to be much heavier; it is rated at 6 amps and has a 1/2 chuck, comes with a removable second handle that fits on the collar; it can handle at least medium duty jobs. It fits the description of the kind of drills that fit this stand: 1/2" drills with a collar for attaching a second handle.Yes, this stand seems to be made more for European/Asian use than American; you can find a drill that fits, as other reviewers have noted, if you truly want to, but it may not be your favorite. This stand is not for heavy-duty drill press work and will be limited by the limitations and fit of your drill. It is sturdy, and you can buy heavier duty fasteners and wrenches, as well as useful accessories.All that said, safety issues bear mentioning. The stand is top-heavy with a drill mounted to it, and it should be bolted to a table, bench, or work surface that can't be moved; it should be used with clamps or some means to immobilize the work; the drill tool should be easy to turn off; there are many adjustments and opportunities for failure and injury; it should be unavailable to children without supervision; I don't think the reverse direction in a drill should be used with this stand. Even though it is a small stand, it is far far more dangerous to use than a regular drill press.I love my universal drill press stand. It can do so many things my regular press could not, like drill radially, swing over the edge of the table to drill vertical holes (in, say, table legs for example), drill horizontally, drill really tiny holes, etc., etc., etc., It is perfect for my hobbies and small repair jobs, and it fills a tool need not filled by any other tool. Am giving it 4 stars and not 5 simply because the finish is rough and the wrenches are rather short and cheap.

I really wanted to like this, but couldn't even test it, returned the Day it arrived.Pros:Sturdy constructionNice heavy baseSmooth actionCons:The least of these is the peeling sticker that sadly fails to mark the increments of depth, is it in the right location, does it actually mark anything?The clamp is so small that it would fit onto ZERO of my rotary tools or hand drills, 14 (fourteen) in total that I tried, in fact a second look at the photo here on Amazon depicts it holding a hand drill but if you look closely the actual spinning, (or in this case clamped), drill chuck is what is clamped meaning the drill would just remain motionless until it fried. The clamp is too small to hold any hand drill or rotary tool I find measurements for, and I checked about 50, (fifty), of them that I could find specifications online! What the heck were the drafting engineers who drew up the plans for this thing thinking? It fits no known rotary tool on the market!Conclusion:I really wanted this to work because the clamp is not the type that you use the rotary tool's lock nut to secure the tool, tried some of those and they were universally a bad joke as they either don't fit any tool properly and/or, (mostly or as they all did it), the tool came loose as soon as you put any torque on the thing such as trying to actually drill or sand something. I tried every tool I have, all top names, and ZERO joy with this device. Basically it is a $50 tool shaped very large paperweight so don't waste your time and money...

At first I had concern my drills wouldn't fit. Some of the reviews said their drills didn't fit. Before ordering I measured both my drills and couldn't find any trouble. Both drill came from Lowe's! The press came today and both drills fit with no trouble. I haven't tried the small col-let yet, but it looks like it will also work for my Rotary Tool.One other note! If you thinks this press is going to do the job the expensive power press does, your mistaken. Your paying for a well made lite weight press for the small home jobs. It allows to use your hand drill and also have a drill press. You get what you pay for and this is well worth the money!

This product is great for small projects that don't require exact precision. There is a slight vibration in the drill when running a full speed. I may try this product with a variable speed switch on the drill. That may help to slow down the drill that you use in the drill press.

First off I bought this tool to drill out a dirtbike part that needed a straight hole. The first thing I did was fully extend this press and the spring did not return back to its normal state, it was stretched out. The press stand that I got had a bad bite/jump/skip halfway through the press action. So me being okay with tools I figured ill take it apart and maybe file the gears a bit to make the press action smooth. The bottom screw on the rail came out just fine, the top one got stripped. So I bought a screw extractor kit (Alden Pro Grabit) for about 80$ to remove the screw. I highly recommend the screw extractor kit if you're ever looking for one because it ripped the head clean off the screw for me to find out that they use thread locker glue on the top screw holding the rail in place. I tried soaking the rail and broken screw in some acetone to eat at the thread locker. I manage to get the rail off the broken screw stud but the stud is in it for life unless I was to drill it out and re-thread the hole. I was not wasting another moment on this piece of garbage. I took my loss and threw it out the door. I never even got to use it once and also paid 100 dollars for it just to throw it away. Save your money and do not buy this. This looks nice well machined piece of equipment but it's not. Invest into a real drill press or rent one. You will not find quality skipping out and buying this instead of a real drill press.

Would have given five but screw for rotation adjustment is came rung out. Had to put in a nut and bolt, pain!!!!
