Perfect mid-level guitar
I wanted an upgrade from my 30 year old Epiphone acoustic, but didn't want to spend $3000 for a Martin (I'm not a professional musician). This was a perfect upgrade for my needs. It shipped with Elixir strings, which sound incredible (my new go-to brand for acoustic). This is a very well built guitar, and it plays smoothly. A great value for a mid-level electric acoustic.

Really nice guitar for the price
Really nice guitar for the price. Great sound and playability. Has a buzz I need to deal with, which brings up the fact that Yamaha does not warrant any product that is not purchased from an authorized dealer. Overall a good guitar. Bought the AC3R and the A3M. They're both fun. AC3R sounds slightly richer and fuller. ( Rosewood vs. Mahogony) A3M has better action and plays lighter. Electronics great on both. Have had 3 guitars custom made and have purchased an assortment of other manufactured guitars, I'm happy with both of these and I suspect for the price, you would be also.

Excellent guitar
I’m a beginner on guitar, but I did a lot of homework before making this purchase. I’m very impressed with the quality and sound of this guitar, and feel that I got the most bang for my buck with this Yamaha AC3R.

Best Value in Acoustic Guitars under $1,0000
I bought an AC5R a few months back, wanting a "made in Japan" Yamaha and knowing that if I bought the AC3, I'd be back buying the AC5 anyway because it just might be better. It's an amazing guitar. Very comfortable to play, beautifully appointed and with a great even tone for recording. But, I wanted a dreadnought too. My old FG180 was passed on to my son and my D-35 is fine, but it doesn't record all that well....at least not as well as the AC5. So, I bought an A3R. I have to be honest and say that the workmanship is as good as the A5 out of the custom shop in Japan. The guitar is incredibly well made. If there is any shortfall, it is that the fret ends were not finished quite as well as the A5. Not bad, by any means, but the "extra step" wasn't taken. All that being said, the A3 is probably the finest guitar out there in this price range. Deep, colored lows without the boominess or boxiness of other brands. Great action out of the factory. Excellent sustains and once the Elixir's are replaced the good sustains should shimmer a bit more. If you're considering all those factors that add in to a really good guitar at a price point less than what you'd pay for a comparable Martin or Taylor, you should be considering this guitar as the best in class. Seriously. It's that good.

What's different than shown on Yamaha site
If you go on the Yamaha site, this guitar has a more advanced electronis system. I won't be using it, so it won't matter to me. My guess is that it is an older model. But in all other things, it's a beautiful guitar and arrived in perfect condition and needed little tuning.
