Compact yes! But still a great bag.
I am very pleased with this purchase, but this bag is not for everyone. This is a compact bag. You cannot fill this bag with a lot of textbooks or even a regular box. Everything I needed, including my textbooks were on my small laptop, so the design worked for me. I am pleased with the bag because it is very difficult to get into easily from behind. The zipper for the main compartment can also be secured with a small lock if necessary. I have been able to fit the following in this bag at one time: 11 inch chrome book, 1 subject spiral notebook, 2 file folders, one 5 inch portable charger, one chrome book charger, small bottle of vitamins, backpack cover, wallet, iphone, and one square lunch bag containing (2 cubed sandwiches), 1 bottle of water, and 2 snack bars.I literally had to measure the bag and find a square-flat lunch bag that would fit holding a drink and sandwiches. The bag can also hold my 15 inch laptop, but not with the lunch bag too.The cool thing about this bag is all of the hidden and protected compartments. I kept my wallet, iphone, and house keys in these tiny secret gems. I even stashed my bus tickets in the shoulder straps (which I secured with a little Velcro tape). This bag is perfect for commuters, people who only use e-textbooks, and people who keep their important things on tablets, small laptops, and phone.

Love this bag!
Love, love, love this bag! After looking at videos and reviews I decided to finally buy it! This is the real deal. It is not the fake version, it is from XD Design, the creators of the Bobby Backpack. I used this on a trip (and I use it often for work and markets) and it works really well for me. I was able to fit my MacBook 13 inch laptop, Planner, Pens, Big Headphones, Bag with medicine and inflight toiletries, external battery, grid it cable organizer with all my chargers, snacks and my wallet. I keep my wallet in the long back pocket and my phone in the side zippered pocket. I got caught in the rain a few times since using it and am very impressed. It repels the water very well. If you want to use it for school, I was able to fit my planner (A5), laptop and a few notebooks and small binder with no problem. Seriously a great bag!

Fits a lot of books, but with not too much space left for anything else.
I bought this for an upcoming trip to the Philippines just in case, though despite the amount of cutpurses I hear about from family when they talk about the country, I doubt I'd be pickpocketed from since I don't plan on walking around in the city so I can't speak much about its anti-theft features, but I also bought it to maybe replace my Herschel Little America Mid-Volume backpack which can barely hold one 1.5" binder, one 382-page 7" x 10" paperback textbook, one 132-page paperback workbook with the same dimensions, and one of those neoprene pencil cases placed on top of all of that, and not much else. This backpack, however, holds the binder along with two each of the textbooks and workbooks, plus the pencil case on top.It won't fit an additional cloth shopping bag from Vans without being a pain in the ass to close though, but you'll probably have an easier time fitting that in than you will when trying to fit another 114-page paperback textbook with the same dimensions as the other books. I managed to shoehorn the textbook right now though, and if you want to add something as thick as the shopping bag or the 114-page textbook, I suggest not opening the zipper all the way down because the place where I have trouble closing the zippers at when the bag is full is around 6"–9" from the bottom where there are snap buttons which if you unsnap them, you can open the main compartment at a 180º angle for airports. The only thing else that will fit after I force the 114-page textbook in is a Kindle Oasis. I also only had trouble stuffing in that last textbook when I filled the pockets inside. It wasn't AS bad as was a LITTLE bit easier when they were empty. I doubt I'd be able to fit a thermos or something in the pocket meant for that though with all that in there. The company doesn't recommend filling this bag this much of course, because I think the reason was it will deform the bag.I wish the smaller pockets inside were removable though like another reviewer said, so I can maybe remove the pockets for school use, and put them back on for traveling so I'd have a bit more space for textbooks when being used for college while still having pockets to put little items in when I travel.Personally, I just use the Herschel bag for 3 out of the 4 days I go to school when I only have one class and only need the binder and one textbook and workbook since that bag is more fashionable-looking, and then use this for the one other day when I need/want to bring all four or five books for both of my Japanese classes.Edit: I've added a picture with all the stuff I have in the main compartment, and because I filled this bag full to bursting, I can feel a small bump on the side that touches my back. But other than this bump, it feels like I'm carrying something way lighter than I actually am. Unlike my Kipling backpack where I'd have a hell of a hard time walking 20 minutes from home to school and back with this much in it because you can feel ALL the weight that is actually inside. My Herschel bag though, also makes what I'm carrying feel a lot lighter too, but of course, it can only carry like, only half as much as this does. Oh, and that little slit on one of the straps for a bus pass or credit card or whatever else that fits? Well, I put my bus pass there, but I'm always afraid of it slipping out without me noticing because sometimes when I'm wearing it, the bus pass peeks out, and it feels like it's just a little bit away from falling out. Maybe a zipper or something would've helped with that.

I really like the style
I really like the style, fit, and design. I looked at many others; this was my first choice. It is well constructed and comfortable. However....I used this on a trip where I had to access items often and found it a bit of a struggle. Yes, it is built to be secure (and it is) but the zippers don't move easily making it a bit of a pain when using it the way I was. I still give it 5 stars, but I will probably use a different carry bag when going on excursions where I am carrying stuff for both my wife and me and will have to dig into it often. When traveling I carry quite a bit of electronic stuff and what I like the most is the knowledge that once I have it packed and strapped onto my back, no one is going to get their creepy hands inside and give my valuables a new home.

Outstanding design
I have been pick-pocketed. Sling pack on the back in the metro of Athens, gone was my bluetooth headset. Lesson learned. This pack will not allow that to happen. There is just no way someone can get their hands inside of it unless they knock me out first.Very good build quality. The compartments inside are well done too and the USB port is a neat addition. Note that this pack doesn't have a built in battery. Instead it basically has a USB extension cord. You can attach a battery pack to the inside male connector which will then power the outside USB port. Very clever design. That plus three "hidden" small pockets (all inside the main shell but accessible without opening the main compartment) makes for a really usable pack.Worth the money.
