The Village People have gotten a bad rep over the years as a result of YMCA which has become a party favourite. Back in the day when they first appeared the VP were an outrageous act on the edges of the music scene. Appealing directly to a gay audience was unheard of and shocked the general public as did the barely concealed subject matter of the early "hits" referencing gay culture/venues. Religious types the moral majority and old grannies were clutching their pearls and covering the children's eyes and ears from exposure to such filth. Then came YMCA and everyone fell in love with the Village People. The double entendre was lost on straight folks- if only they knew why it was fun to stay at the YMCA they would've save a fortune on perming lotion! All of the major chart hits are included on the CD- including the early 1977 recordings. A number are in 12" version or extended album cut. Sound quality is great. Excellent value too

This compilation contains all four tracks from the first album by the Village People, "Village People", ie. "San Francisco", "In Hollywood", "Fire Island" and "Village people". If you regard the Village People as merely a pop disco, early incarnation "boy band", then these four songs might change your mind.I have the first album on vinyl, but as far as I am aware, it is unobtainable on CD, so buy this instead.It also contains 12" versions of "YMCA", "Macho Man" "In the Navy" and "Go West ".

I ordered this as had a copy which became damaged through many years of use, I'm really pleased to be able to replace it and have thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.
