i can use this cable in my ipod shuffle 1st generation

I purchased this for my iPod that I thought was once lost. Found it but never found the original charger so I ordered this and it worked like a charm. I believe mine was first or second gen and I'm not sure there was a difference in the two as far as charging.

Does this work as a portable amplifier connector?

If the amplifier has a USB Port which supports charging, yes. But I strongly say "NOT TO BUY" this product. It screwed up my iPod.
