Q: how often should you apply these tabs? every water change?

You should probably get a PH test kit so you can monitor the PH levels to know when it's needed. It also depends on the PH state of the water you are adding, for me, I crack the tablets in half and it's enough for my water changes.

Q: Can this tablet be used with live plants? Can't tell by the packaging.

Yes. I have live plants and use this product. They are flourishing.

Q: Is this ok to use with live plants and snails?

I have a heavily planted tank and snails and have never had any problems. I avoid dropping it directly on the plants but that is mostly because I have a Corey catfish that likes the play in the bubbles and he will tear up the plants if it is in them. Likewise, I do not drop it into the part of my tank that is carpeted for the same reason. You can also dissolve it in tank water before dumping it in if your fish do not like the bubbles. While my Corey Loves it, I have 1 older Platty that appears to be bothered by it so I always drop it away from her favorite areas.
